Manipal, Karnataka : The International Communication Association (ICA) has announced its 2024 Regional Hub conference in Manipal, themed “Communication and Global Human Rights.” The conference will take place at the Manipal Institute of Communication, emphasizing the pivotal role of media and communication in advocating for human rights within the South Asian context.

The conference aims to assess the contributions of communication scholarship to human rights, highlight current research and practices, and identify promising directions for future studies. It invites scholars, academicians, and practitioners to explore the intricate relationship between communication, media, and human rights in South Asia.

Human rights are of paramount importance in South Asia, reflecting a global priority. They address critical issues such as climate change, health, migration, food insecurity, entrenched inequalities, conflicts, and social exclusion. Themes of the Conference

1. Diversity, Plurality, and the Marginalized: Media and Communication Perspectives on Human Rights in South Asia This theme delves into how media represents diverse and marginalized groups, including gender, religious, caste, economic, linguistic, and sexual minorities. It seeks submissions from activists, practitioners, and scholars to explore how media reflects and responds to advocacy efforts for these communities.
