Today, December 8, 2024, marks the 7th death anniversary of the multifaceted and illustrious Dr. Arunachalam Kumar. A renowned anatomist, researcher, and academician, Dr. Kumar left an indelible mark on the world of medicine and beyond.
Born on April 27, 1949, Dr. Kumar’s academic journey began at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, where he studied medicine and later became a professor and head of the anatomy department. His illustrious career spanned over four decades, during which he held various prestigious positions, including Dean of KSHEMA and Director (R&D) at Nitte University.
Dr. Kumar’s intellectual curiosity and passion for knowledge were unparalleled. He authored numerous scientific papers, articles, and books, and his research interests ranged from anatomy and medicine to ornithology, computer science, and sociology. His prediction of Sachin Tendulkar’s back injury based on the cricketer’s batting posture is a testament to his extraordinary analytical mind.
A true rationalist, Dr. Kumar was a founding member of the Dakshina Kannada Rationalist Association. His courage and stoicism in the face of adversity were inspiring, and his commitment to rational thinking remained unwavering even in his final days.
