IMPACT ON HOTEL INDUSTRY

‘ atithi devo bhava‘

-The beginning of the hospitality sector in India stands rooted in this philosophy
-A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short-term basis.
-The origin of the hotel industry in India cannot be traced to a definitive point of time, there is evidence of its presence even during the Indus Valley Civilization and Vedic Era. In olden days, travel was predominantly undertaken for pilgrimage and trade
-Japan’s Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, founded in 705, was officially recognised by the Guinness World Records as the oldest hotel in the world.
-Hotels proliferated throughout Western Europe and North America in the 19th century. Luxury hotels, including the 1829 Tremont House in Boston, the 1836 Astor House in New York City, the 1889 Savoy Hotel in London, and the Ritz chain of hotels in London and Paris in the late 1890s, catered to an ever more wealthy clientele.
-Ancient India was well known for its silk, spices, gold, and gemstones. Record of famous travelers of the yore speaks of Indians trading with countries like Greece, Italy, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and Japan, among others.
-The organized existence of the hotel industry in India started taking shape during the colonial period, with the advent of Europeans in the seventeenth century. … The first Indian style hotels were Sardar Griha, which opened in 1900, and Madhavashram in 1908.
-In 2019, there are over 700,000 hotels and resorts worldwide. The global hotel market has over 20 million hotel rooms worldwide.
-As of 2019, 4.2 crore jobs were created in the tourism sector in India which was 8.1 per cent of total employment in the country.
-According to WTTC, India ranked third among 185 countries in terms of travel and tourism’s total contribution to GDP in 2018.
-During 2019, foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in India stood at 10.89 million, achieving a growth rate of 3.20 per cent y-o-y.
-Hotel and Tourism sector received cumulative FDI inflow of US$ 15.28 billion between April 2000 and March 2020.
-The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world to a standstill, with the hospitality, travel and tourism sector being the most affected due to travel restrictions across the world and within India
-Due to COVID-19 Majority of hotel operators expect up to 2 years for revenue recovery, says McKinsey & JLL survey
ITC HOTELS

Mr Narendra Nedungadi (नेदुनगाडी)
-He is the Head of Sales ITC Hotels
-After doing his Masters in Business, Mr Narendra joined ITC Ltd. as a Management Trainee in their Hotels Division.
-He has over 3 decades of Sales & Marketing experience across all facets of the Industry.
-Before he took over as Head of Sales for ITC Hotels three years ago, he was the Head of Brands for the company.

-Mr Chris Nassetta, President and CEO, Hilton said, “Hilton is united with the hospitality industry in prioritizing the health and safety of our guests and employees. As part of our Hilton CleanStay program developed in partnership with Lysol and the Mayo Clinic, all Hilton Team Members are required to wear face coverings in an effort to protect all who enter our more than 6,100 properties worldwide.” 

Mr Manish Tolani

-He is the Vice President & Commercial Director Hilton India
–Mr Manish Tolani joined Hilton in September 2018 as the company’s first Vice President & Commercial Director for Hilton in India.
-A seasoned hospitality leader with over 20 years of experience,
-Mr Manish has worked with ITC, Marriott International and Oberoi Hotels & Resorts across various roles in hotel operations, sales distribution, marketing and brand management
-He was recognized for his achievements as a leader in Sales & Marketing for the Asia Pacific region in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
-He was also awarded as General Manager of the Year (Upscale hotels) by Hotelier India in 2014.
-An IHM- Aurangabad graduate comes from an operations background in food & beverage. Manish also holds a Degree in Hospitality Management from The University of Huddersfield, UK.  
MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL

Ms Shampa Dhali (शोमपा डाली)
—She is the Area Director National Sales India Marriott International Inc
-Ms Shampa joined Marriott in 2002 as part of the preopening Sales and Marketing team at JW Marriott Juhu and since served in various positions in Marriott’s sales organization. In 2006, she led the Marriott’s Cluster Sales office in Mumbai and moved to join Hyderabad Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre in 2007 as Director Sales and Marketing, where she successfully opened Courtyard, Marriott’s second in the country in 2009.
-Shampa holds a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from AHMA (American Hotel and Motel Association).
-She is also an active member of several Industry bodies like ICESAP, Visit USA committee and FICCI FLO Western region.
HOTEL SAHARA STAR

Mr Manish Sodhi The CEO of Hotel Sahara Star said, We at Hotel Sahara Star will be re-starting the operations and to make sure that all our guests and the team is safe and protected we have undertaken several steps which will be visible across the property. -He has more than 15 years of experience in Food & Beverage service and sales,
-He Worked with marquee names in hospitality business including Hotel Sahara Star, Intercontinental Grand Mumbai & Intercontinental Marine drive, Le Meridian (Pune).
-He Received special award for the year 2019 from the Chairman of the Sahara Group
-He Spear headed IPL Out door Catering of 5000 pax each season (2011, 2012 and 2013)
-He Won most admired banqueting service of the year award for the hotel Sahara Star  from Golden Star award 2011-2012.
-He has done Three-Year Diploma in Hotel Management in 2004 from AHALA (American Hotels & logging association)
Mr. Kailash Kabra
-Is the Chairman & Managing Director of Kabra Travel Services Pvt Ltd
-He has started his travel agency 20 years ago with the agenda of promoting and selling Goa as a dream destination for the travellers
-Afterwards he started selling attractive packages of five star hotels such as Marriott, Taj, Hyatt, etc.
-Now, in this pandemic situation of Covid-19, where travel and hotel industry hit so badly; he came up with a new innovative concept for the survival of the employees, agents, hotels, etc. i.e. PAY NOW STAY LATER.
-This Pay now Stay later scheme became very popular because one can book package on very discounted rate and can stay once Pandemic intensity will be less and hotels will be functioning Normally
-Mr. Kabra, is now trying to launch similar kind of package for weddings also as per the government norms of 50 pax wedding; which includes stay, all meals, venue usage, etc. for 02 nights by giving additional benefits to the customers
