The Ramakrishna Mission in Mangaluru has been working to spread awareness about cleanliness through the Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan for five years in Mangaluru, D.K., and Udupi Districts. The volunteers of this effort started the Swacch Mangaluru Foundation in 2021 to continue similar helpful activities in Mangaluru and Dakshina Kannada District.
With guidance from the Ramakrishna Mission, the Foundation has been doing various helpful activities. Now, the foundation is starting a lecture series called ‘Jijnasa – Sanatan Chintan Ganga’ (A Lecture Series on Indic Renaissance) on every other month’s Sunday. This series will have well-known speakers and monks from the Ramakrishna Order talking about important topics.
Because there’s not enough space for traditional Indian ideas and values nowadays, the Swacch Mangaluru Foundation wants to use this lecture series to talk about these ideas and values. They want to encourage discussions about ancient Indian knowledge that’s about peace, prosperity, brotherhood, and wellbeing.
In the past few decades, there’s been efforts to tell the story of India from an Indian viewpoint; And now, this effort is growing in academics, culture, society, and the economy; said the organisers.
This lecture series, JIJNASA – Sanatan Chintan Ganga, is a way to talk about Indian thoughts and to help people understand Indian society, history, culture, and traditions.
It’s different from ideas that come from Europe, like western secularism and consumerism. This series is especially for educated people in Mangaluru like doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, architects, media, and business people.
The first event of this series, JIJNASA, will start on September 3, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Vivekananda Auditorium in Ramakrishna Math, Mangaladevi. Dr. Anand Ranganathan will talk about “India towards 2047 – A Land of Opportunities”. Shri N Vinaya Hegde, from Nitte University, will lead the event, and Poojya Swami Jitakamananda Ji from Ramakrishna Math will bless the occasion.
