Michael D’ Souza Vision 2030 for Twin Dioceses of Karwar and Gulbarga Flagged Off in Mangalore

Mangalore, December 16, 2025 – Renowned NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael D’ Souza unveiled his ambitious Vision 2030 initiative aimed at empowering communities in the twin Dioceses of Karwar and Gulbarga through sustainable shelter and education programs. The event marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the respective Bishops at Bishops House, Kodialbail, Mangalore, in the presence of Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha of Mangalore and Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi.
“Shelter and education are the basic minimum requirements for every human being. Living in continued uncertainty without a roof over one’s head and struggling to earn for the lack of higher education are major obstacles to community development,” said Mr. D’ Souza. “God has blessed my family and me with more than we need, and we have been even more blessed as we began sharing with our brethren.”
Mr. D’ Souza emphasized a dignified approach to philanthropy, stating, “Charity should aim to restore dignity to beneficiaries. Education is the best means to empower communities. The Church is the most reliable, time-tested institution that can play a pivotal role in this process. Since 2013, the Dioceses of Mangalore and Udupi have effectively implemented comprehensive plans, and a roadmap has been prepared under the visionary leadership of the Bishops of Gulbarga and Karwar. Individuals may come and go, but the institution and its vision endure.”
The initiative builds on the success of Mr. D’ Souza’s charity initiatives in Mangalore and Udupi since 2013, focusing on long-term community upliftment.
Mr. Oswald Rodrigues, Advisor to the Michael D. Souza Charity Initiative, welcomed the gathering and provided a bird’s-eye view of the ongoing programs.
Prof. CA Lionel Aranha outlined the context and significance of the MoU, while Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha presided over the function.
Msgr. Santhosh Bapu, Vicar General of the Gulbarga Diocese, expressed gratitude on behalf of his diocese, and Bishop Duming Dais conveyed thanks for the Karwar Diocese.
Mr. Michael D’ Souza and his wife, Mrs. Flavia D’ Souza, received felicitations with shawls and floral bouquets from the Dioceses of Karwar and Gulbarga.
Among the distinguished guests were Very Rev. Fr. Dionysus Vas S.J., Provincial of Karnataka Jesuits; Very Rev. Fr. Rajesh Rosario, Rector of St. Joseph Inter-Diocesan Seminary; and Rev. Sr. Naveen A.C., Provincial of Apostolic Carmelites. Msgr. Richard Rodrigues, Vicar General of the Karwar Diocese, also attended.
Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha led the assembly in prayers, invoking divine blessings on the Michael D’ Souza Vision 2030 (MDV2030) initiative.
