HR Summit in the Era of Artificial Intelligence Inaugurated

Mangalore, November 4, 2023 – The National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) Mangalore Chapter launched a dynamic HR Summit, delving into the challenges and opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of Human Resources. The event was inaugurated with great enthusiasm and featured notable speakers, HR professionals, industry experts, and academics from the region. Held at the prestigious Hotel Ocean Pearl, Mangalore, the summit commenced at 9:30 AM.

Distinguished Chief Guest and His Insights

Mr. Unnikrishnan, the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner for Mangalore, graced the occasion as the esteemed Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he expressed profound concerns about the rapidly evolving landscape of HR in the age of AI. Mr. Unnikrishnan referenced visionary entrepreneur Elon Musk, who has emphasized the remarkable capabilities of AI in potentially outsmarting even the most intelligent humans. On a lighter note, he reminded the audience of the pivotal role played by the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) in promoting retirement savings. He highlighted EPFO’s outreach programs, conducted on the 27th of every month, and encouraged all present to actively participate in these initiatives.

Keynote Speaker’s Encouragement

Shri Adika Rathna Sekar, Chairman and Managing Director of Balmer Lawrie and Co. Ltd, Kolkata, delivered a compelling keynote address during the summit. Mr. Sekar reassured the audience that AI is not here to replace humans but to collaborate with them. He emphasized the symbiotic relationship between machines and human expertise. Mr. Sekar also discussed AI’s current impact on identifying emerging trends and opportunities, underlining the fact that predicting the future is not a matter of magic but rather a consequence of artificial intelligence.

Warm Welcome and Acknowledgments

Mr. Steevan Pinto, Chairman of NIPM Mangalore Chapter, set the tone for the day by extending a warm welcome to the audience and recognizing the generous sponsors for backing this remarkable initiative. Mr. Ronald Sequeira, the Executive Director of VRASolutions, launched the NIPM website and unveiled the first newsletter.

Mr. Basavaraju Hon., General Secretary of NIPM, administered the code of ethics. Key sponsors were acknowledged, including the knowledge partner Deloitte, and event partners Canara Bank, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Nitte Deemed to be University, Karnataka Bank, ONGC MRPL, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Cardolite Multi-Specialty Chemicals Limited, and others.

Honoring Contributors and Concluding Remarks

The event also paid tribute to individuals who have contributed to NIPM’s achievements. Mr. Laksmish Rai, Secretary of NIPM Mangalore Chapter, expressed gratitude and gave a vote of thanks. Dr. Malini Hebbar compered the event, while HR students from the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, actively volunteered during the event.

Notable guests and delegates from various chapters and regions, including Mr. Vinod Narayan, National Council Member, NIPM, NIPM Trivandrum Chapter Chairman Mr. Elango, Secretary Mr. Vipin Kumar, and past Chairmen of NIPM Mangalore Chapter Dr. Devaraj, Shekhar Pujari, PA Jose, P Suresh, Dr. Sebastin K V, were present, making this summit a gathering of over 150 enthusiastic participants.
