In a recent conversation, Prof. Kumar shared his experiences as an NCC Officer and how it has shaped him into the person he is today. “I was attracted to NCC because of the uniform,” he said with a smile. “But it’s not just about the uniform; it’s about the discipline, the promptness, and the unity that comes with being part of the NCC.”

Prof. Yathish Kumar’s journey with NCC began as a caretaker, and he eventually went on to complete his pre-commission training. He has since become a respected figure in the NCC community, earning accolades for his performance in refresher programs. His most recent achievement was securing second place in the 2022 refresher course, a feat that he accomplished at the age of 56.

Prof. Kumar’s academic pursuits are equally impressive. He has been teaching for over 25 years and has guided several PhDs since 2007. His research interests are diverse, and he has published numerous papers in reputable journals. When asked about his experience as a PhD guide, Prof. Kumar fondly recalls his own PhD journey, which he completed in 2004 under the guidance of Prof. Yashavantha Dongre, now the Vice-Chancellor of Chanakya University.

Dr. Yathish Kumar: Brief Biography

Present Position
Dr. Yathish Kumar currently serves as a Professor and Coordinator of MBA (IB) and MCom programs at the University Evening College, Mangalore. He is the former Head of the Department of BBA and the former Coordinator of the Department of Postgraduate Studies in Commerce at University College, Mangalore.

He has also held the positions of Coordinator of Open University, Regional Centre of Mangalore University, and Coordinator of the Department of MCom and MBA at the University Evening College, Mangalore. Additionally, he has served as the Principal/Coordinator of University College, Nellyadi, a constituent college of Mangalore University.

Commissioned Officer
Dr. Kumar holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the NCC Naval Unit, showcasing his dedication to discipline and leadership.

Contributions to Rotary International
Dr. Kumar has been actively involved in social service through Rotary International. He is the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club Mangalore Seaside (2022-23).

Awards and Recognitions
Dr. Kumar has been honored with the Rajiv Gandhi Gold Medal Award for his excellence in academics, NCC, and social activities.

Academic Achievements
Dr. Kumar has an impressive academic record, having published 66 research articles and authored 12 textbooks. He was awarded the Best Paper Award at an international conference held in Malaysia.
