Lal Goel! the man who had set an agenda for the media!
By NV Paulose
India was following an American Media System for a long time. Washington Post and Arnab Goswami were among the giants who fix the media ajenda everyday. The scenario has changed unknowingly and unexpectedly with a sequence of events one after the other.
‘Pandemic hit world’ went on an introspection unknowingly and the outcome is a new emergence of standards in every front. Media being the trendsetter was playing the role of the Master Culprit. People like Arnab were commanding control over everything and everyone in power. None was able to think anything against them. This has changed in the flow of events during the Pandemic strike at its first blow. Let us look into the whereabouts of what had happened during pandemic.
The Lal Goel model of agenda setting for Media.
It was all shutdown since third week of March 2020 and media was all in total dilemma. People stopped print newspapers and magazines fearing Corona. TV Channels till then were creating issues from nowhere for diverting everyone’s attention. Every media got wonder struck when the real issue had emerged from nowhere. They had no idea of facing real challenges.
Can we do something for the larger benefit of the society was the thought of Mr. Lal Goel at such a confusing time in the history of mankind. The initiative started with small episodes have grown to become the trendsetter and agenda setter for Indian Media. Every day went with a new topic and there are hundreds of relevant topics Already being discussed.
There are hundreds of thousands of issues waiting for media intervention at international to local level. There is no dearth of issues in our country. There is no issue that cannot be resolved as well. Mr. Lal Goel has emerged being one of the best editors in Indian media today. His presence of mind, respect for the guests, willingness to listen and interest to engage in fruitful conversations etc. are very much noteworthy.
Another important change that had happened to the Indian media is it’s mindset that is stuck with journalism degrees. There is no college in India teaching latest media trends. Mr. Lal Goel could prove that a dedicated person who is willing to learn and respect people can become a reputed editor. There are plenty of opportunities for committed citizens to become reputed editors in India.
Many great men and women are coming forward to become editors and to take up real issues into discussion today. Several new topics are also emerging every day. No more attention diverts in Indian Media. Arnab and TRP scams are only until there are advertisements based on false reports.
Ultimately the people who work in search of solutions will set agenda for Indian Media at various levels. Anyone who is good in communication, has a sense of responsibility and is willing to take part in development processes will make a great career being Editors and Chief Editors with trendsetter media like Global TV, TED and so many similar meaningful media platforms. Salute to the dedicated editors who are sincerely involved on the transformation process of otherwise lost Indian social integrity.
