District Venlock Hospital is at the heart of Dakshina Kannada District.  It is the heart of the district, in fact. The hospital serves the sick at very critical times of their illness. People from about ten districts depend on this majestic hospital for various kinds of difficulties in their health paradox. The hospital is filled with inpatients all the times. Water shortage was a large issue surrounded the performance and even existence of the hospital.

We could see the happiness and sense of fulfilment on the face of Dr. Jacintha DSouza, the dedicated District Surgeon and Superintendent on a water miracle that had blessed the life of people in the hospital. It was unbelievable unless it was not seen right on to her eyes. It resembled many stories from the history at various times. Dr. Jacintha is thankful to the kind hearts of great personalities who had shown their concern for the people who are the least in many parameters.

The sun casts its golden rays upon the bustling streets of Mangalore.  Venlock District Hospital for years had been plagued by a relentless foe of water scarcity. Patients, nurses, and doctors alike suffered under the burden of insufficient water supply, their hopes for recovery dampened by the dry wells and empty taps.

Amidst this adversity and difficulty, Dr. Jacintha DSouza, the District Surgeon and Superintendent went to seek support from the Health Minister Sri Dinesh Gundurav and the District Collector Sri Mullai Muhilan. They took notice of the hospital’s dilemma and acted instantly upon and embarked on a mission of compassion to resolve the issue in a brighter way.

Everything turned around to become a large miracle when the City Municipal Commissioner, Mr. C.L. Anand rallied his weight on to the pressing issue. They joined together to devise a plan to quench the hospital’s thirst. A borewell of 450 feet deep was drilled and renewed being a promising reservoir of fresh, life-giving water. When the water finally gushed forth, a wave of joy and gratitude swept through the hospital corridors. Hearts danced with jubilation, many whispered words of thanks, and Dr. DSouza’s smile radiated with relief.

No longer would the hospital be shackled by scarcity; no longer would the healing hands be hindered by drought. The renewed borewell is a symbol of resilience and compassion. It is a testament to what can be achieved when hearts and hands unite for the greater good.
