Born on March 3, 1952, in Kasaragod, Kerala, M. V. Nair grew up in Mangalore, Karnataka, as the second eldest of seven siblings. His formative years was at the St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, present St. Aloysius University. Education and engagement in NCC instilled in him the values of discipline and excellence.

He was always eager to expand his horizons. MV Nair pursued advanced training at premier institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Kellogg School of Management, and Harvard Business School, setting the stage for his stellar career. MV Nair’s tenure as Chairman and Managing Director of Union Bank of India for six years and Dena Bank for one year marked a period of ground breaking reforms and modernization.
