Over 5 lakh people die annually in India while awaiting organ transplants; ROTARIAN LAL GOEL
Mumbai, November 21, 2025 – Rotarian Lal Goel, Founder and Charter President of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International and Chairman of the Organ Donation India Foundation & GYAN, delivered an impactful presentation on organ donation to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit at Mumbai Airport.
During his address, Rotarian Goel highlighted the urgent need for organ donation in India, citing data from the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) that over 5 lakh people die annually while awaiting organ transplants. In stark contrast, he noted that the UK recorded 422 deaths due to organ shortage last year. “One brain-dead person can save up to nine lives and improve the quality of life for up to 75 people,” he emphasised.

Rotarian Lal Goel identified five major barriers to organ donation in India: lack of awareness, inadequate infrastructure, financial constraints, religious and cultural myths, and gaps in the legal framework. He urged collective action to address these challenges.
Mr Deepak Agarwal, DIG/CISF, Commandant Aviation Security Operations (CASO), Aviation Security Group, Mumbai Airport, commended Rotarian Goel’s dedication to this noble cause, expressing hope that the program would serve as an eye-opener for many attendees.

Mr Vikas Kumar, Commandant, introduced the guest speaker. The program was attended by Rtn Ruby Agarwal, Inspire Secretary, and Rtn Dinesh Gupta, Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International, along with numerous CISF officers and personnel at the Royal Palms Campus and other campuses via live streaming.
Mr Deepak Agarwal presented a CISF memento to Rotarian Lal Goel in recognition of his work. Rotarian Goel thanked the DIG for the opportunity to address such a significant gathering across multiple locations.
