Saint Mother Teresa Forum is to preserve and foster the rich legacy of compassion | Global TV

Embracing Unity: The Essential Essence for Societal Well-being, Professed by Dr. K. Phaniraj

In the heart of Mangaluru, literary luminary Dr. K. Phaniraj expounded on the vital need for a sense of alliance to nurture societal harmony. Speaking at the inauguration of the symposium themed ‘Cells of Love in Diverse India,’ hosted by the Saint Mother Teresa Forum on the 26th Commemoration Day of Saint Mother Teresa at the City Hall, he underscored the significance of unity.
“Hate is a simplistic sentiment, while love embodies a profound complexity. It is effortless to manipulate for power and wealth, with no shortage of enablers. In such a landscape, the true essence of love is genuinely spiritual,” he shared. India, unfortunately, has witnessed the scars of communal strife, characterized by violence, hatred, and unforgivable acts such as rape. Dr. Phaniraj emphasized that for social democracy to thrive, the spirit of brotherhood must be as fundamental as our daily sustenance—imbued within us like the very air we breathe.
“Equality cannot merely be safeguarded through legislation; it must be ingrained in our societal fabric. If equality and fraternity are to endure, equitable resource distribution is imperative,” Prof. Phaniraj stated. He attributed conflicts to those who undermine the sense of camaraderie, eroding the foundation of alliance.
Understanding the Constitution’s Fundamental Principle: Unity
Echoing this sentiment, retired NSS officer Dr. Gananath Shetty stressed the essence of an inner revolution rooted in understanding reality. He illuminated Gandhiji’s belief that genuine revolution originates from our innermost being and hinges upon our thought processes. The ethos of India’s Constitution—equality, liberty, fraternity, and social justice—was emphasized as a bedrock, urging for mutual respect and acknowledgment of each individual’s rights and freedoms.
“Today, our society often places more importance on rituals than on the teachings of love. Humanity is a cell of love that requires nurturing,” Dr. Shetty added. Drawing inspiration from the selfless life of Mother Teresa, he highlighted the importance of service, compassion, and seeing the divine in all.
Roy Castellino, President of the Saint Mother Teresa Forum, emphasized the role of youth, the future torchbearers of India. He paid homage to Mother Teresa, a beacon of humanity, and underscored the need for emulating her spirit of love and service. The Saint Mother Teresa Forum, he mentioned, was established to disseminate love and compassion inspired by her teachings.
Acknowledging the Contributions: A Celebration of Love and Compassion
Distinguished attendees, including former Mayor of Mangalore K. Ashraf and retired principal Dr. Vasant Kumar, added their perspectives, underscoring the enduring impact of Saint Mother Teresa’s legacy. They celebrated her unwavering dedication to serving the marginalized and the destitute, embodying love in its purest form.
In this gathering of compassionate souls, it became evident that desire, often the root of suffering, manifests not only in material wants but also in selfishness, hatred, and communalism. Dr. Shetty urged a transcendence of these base desires, envisioning a world where humanity rises above the mundane, as envisioned by the revered poet Kuvempu.

In essence, the symposium reiterated the timeless wisdom—love, compassion, and unity are the pillars upon which a harmonious society stands, steering humanity toward a more enlightened and altruistic future. With the teachings of Mother Teresa as their guide, those present pledged to propagate love as the fundamental force that binds and uplifts society.

A Legacy of Compassion: The Life of Mother Teresa

In the heart of the bustling streets of Kolkata, India, a diminutive figure clad in a white sari moved with purpose, tending to the destitute and forgotten. This remarkable woman was none other than Saint Mother Teresa, whose life and work continue to inspire countless individuals around the world.

Born as Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 26, 1910, Mother Teresa’s journey toward sainthood began in the most humble of circumstances. At the tender age of 18, she left her family to join the Sisters of Loreto in Ireland, where she adopted the name Sister Mary Teresa. Little did the world know that this young nun would go on to transform the lives of thousands.

Mother Teresa’s calling came during a train ride to Darjeeling in 1946 when she received what she described as a “call within a call” from God. She felt a deep and compelling urge to serve the poorest of the poor in the slums of Kolkata. With unwavering faith, she founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, an organization dedicated to caring for those suffering from poverty, disease, and despair.

One of her most well-known endeavors was the establishment of the Nirmal Hriday (Pure Heart) home for the dying. Here, the destitute and abandoned found not only a place to spend their last moments but also the solace of compassionate care. Mother Teresa’s personal involvement was legendary – she would often cradle the dying in her arms, providing them comfort and dignity in their final hours.

Her selflessness extended far beyond the walls of the hospice. She tirelessly walked the streets of Kolkata, seeking out the forgotten and marginalized, providing food, shelter, and love to those who had none. Her work earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, an acknowledgment of her unwavering commitment to alleviating human suffering.

Mother Teresa’s influence transcended boundaries and religious affiliations. Her message of love, compassion, and service resonated with people of all backgrounds. She once said, “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one,” a testament to her belief in the power of individual acts of kindness.

Even after her passing on September 5, 1997, Mother Teresa’s legacy endures. Her canonization as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016 was a testament to the profound impact she had on the world. Her spirit lives on in the Saint Mother Teresa Forum, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting her values and ideals.

As we gather to commemorate Saint Mother Teresa Memorial Day, let us remember the life of this extraordinary woman, whose boundless love and unwavering dedication continue to inspire us to spread peace and love in our diverse world.

Virtually all religions teach the importance of compassion and empathy towards fellow human beings | Global TV

One World, One God: Bridging the Divide Between Faith and Unity

In our increasingly interconnected world, the concept of “One World, One People” is gaining momentum. This vision calls for humanity to transcend the boundaries of nationality, culture, and ideology, standing together as a unified global community. However, alongside this notion, another idea is emerging, one that seeks to bridge the gap between faith and unity – “One World, One God.”

The Diversity of Faith

Our world is a tapestry of diverse cultures, languages, and belief systems. People around the globe follow various religions, including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and countless others. Each of these faiths carries its own unique traditions, teachings, and rituals, offering spiritual guidance and purpose to billions of individuals.

Finding Common Ground

While the differences among religions are evident and deeply meaningful to those who follow them, the notion of “One World, One God” encourages us to explore the common threads that weave through our spiritual tapestry. At its core, this concept asks us to recognize the shared values and principles that transcend religious boundaries.

Shared Values

Compassion: Virtually all religions teach the importance of compassion and empathy towards fellow human beings. Whether it’s the Christian commandment to “love thy neighbor” or the Islamic concept of “rahma” (mercy), the call to kindness is universal.

Justice: Many religious traditions emphasize the pursuit of justice and fairness. This shared value can guide us in our efforts to create a more just and equitable world.
Peace: Peace is a central theme in nearly all religions. The desire for inner and outer peace can be a unifying force in our quest for harmony.

Building Bridges, Not Walls

The concept of “One World, One God” challenges us to view religious diversity as an opportunity for dialogue and understanding rather than a source of conflict. It reminds us that our faiths, while different in practice, often share a common goal: to foster love, kindness, and a connection to the divine.

Interfaith Dialogue

Interfaith dialogue plays a crucial role in promoting the idea of “One World, One God.” When individuals from different faith backgrounds come together to discuss their beliefs, they often discover striking similarities and shared values. Such dialogue can lead to increased tolerance, respect, and cooperation among communities of diverse faiths.

Global Challenges Require Global Solutions

As our world grapples with complex issues like climate change, poverty, and social inequality, the idea of “One World, One God” reminds us that we must work together, transcending religious differences, to find solutions. It calls for collective action guided by our shared values, with a focus on compassion, justice, and peace.

Transcendence and Unity in Faith

Across various religious traditions, the concept of a transcendent and all-encompassing God is a recurring theme. This God is often seen as existing beyond the physical world and human comprehension. Quantum science, operating within a different framework, has also led to perspectives resonating with these spiritual ideas.

Unity and Oneness

The notion of unity and oneness is at the heart of the concept of “One World, One God.” Whether from a religious or scientific perspective, this idea emphasizes that everything is interconnected, and divisions between individuals, beings, and the universe become less distinct.

Bridging Science and Spirituality

Efforts to bridge science and spirituality often involve exploring the profound mysteries of existence, consciousness, and the interconnectedness of all things. Such endeavors can be intellectually stimulating and spiritually enriching for those who seek meaning in these connections.

The Ethical Dimension

The ethical perspective of “One World, One God” underscores the importance of compassion, justice, and peace, which are often shared values among different religious and spiritual traditions. It calls for responsible stewardship of the environment and the well-being of all living beings.

The Limitations of Human Understanding

Both religious and scientific perspectives acknowledge the limitations of human understanding. This recognition of our limited understanding encourages humility and a sense of wonder in the face of the unknown, fostering a sense of awe and reverence for the mysteries of existence.

The concept of “One World, One God” represents an evolving perspective that encourages us to embrace the diversity of faith while recognizing our common humanity. It asks us to build bridges of understanding and cooperation, rather than walls of division. By focusing on our shared values and principles, we can move closer to a world where unity and spirituality coexist harmoniously, fostering a brighter future for all of humanity.

A World Beyond Capital Accumulation: Pursuing True Happiness

In a world driven by consumerism and the relentless pursuit of capital accumulation, the concept of true happiness often takes a backseat to material wealth. However, there is a growing awareness that genuine happiness cannot be found in the relentless amassing of material possessions or the relentless pursuit of financial success. A world that seeks happiness beyond capital accumulation in dead stocks will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the world.

Redefining Prosperity

The traditional markers of prosperity have long been associated with financial wealth and material abundance. But in the pursuit of this wealth, we often neglect our well-being, our relationships, and our connection to the world around us. True happiness extends beyond the balance in our bank accounts and encompasses the quality of our lives, our sense of purpose, and our contribution to the greater good.

The Pursuit of Well-Being

Well-being encompasses physical, mental, and emotional health, as well as a sense of fulfillment and purpose. A world that values well-being over capital accumulation prioritizes access to quality healthcare, education, and mental health support. It recognizes the importance of work-life balance and the need for individuals to find meaning and satisfaction in their lives beyond the confines of their careers.

Building Meaningful Connections

In the race for wealth, we often lose sight of the value of human connections and relationships. True happiness is often found in the warmth of our friendships, the support of our families, and the joy of shared experiences. A world that values happiness beyond capital accumulation encourages strong social bonds, compassion, and empathy among its citizens.

Sustainable Living

The relentless pursuit of capital accumulation often comes at the expense of the environment. Overconsumption, resource depletion, and pollution are the consequences of an unchecked pursuit of economic growth. A world that seeks happiness beyond material wealth recognizes the importance of sustainable living, environmental stewardship, and the preservation of our planet for future generations.

The Pursuit of Inner Fulfillment

Beyond the external trappings of success, true happiness often resides within ourselves. Practices like mindfulness, meditation, and self-reflection can lead to a deeper understanding of our own desires and values. A world that values happiness beyond capital accumulation encourages individuals to embark on a journey of self-discovery, seeking inner fulfillment and contentment.

Making a Difference

Ultimately, a world that seeks happiness beyond capital accumulation aims to make a positive impact on the lives of its citizens and the global community. It values the well-being of all living beings, fosters a sense of social responsibility, and promotes ethical behavior. It encourages individuals to find happiness not just for themselves but to extend it to others through acts of kindness, charity, and community engagement.
The pursuit of true happiness beyond capital accumulation represents a shift in our collective consciousness. It challenges the prevailing notion that material wealth is the ultimate goal and instead invites us to prioritize our well-being, our relationships, and our connection to the world around us. Such a world holds the potential to make a profound and positive difference in the lives of individuals and in the well-being of our planet.

Finland’s education system | Equal Opportunities for All | Child-centered approach to learning | Global TV

The Finnish Education System: A Model of Excellence

Finland’s education system has consistently ranked among the best in the world, drawing international attention and admiration. Its unique approach to education has led to exceptional outcomes in terms of student performance and overall well-being. The key aspects of the Finnish education system are listed below. You can evaluate it by yourself to understand about what makes it so successful and what other countries can learn from its practices.

Equal Opportunities for All

One of the cornerstones of the Finnish education system is its commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students. Finnish schools, whether in urban centers or rural areas, offer the same high-quality education to every child. There are no standardized tests or selective admissions processes, ensuring that students from all socio-economic backgrounds have the same chances to succeed.

Teacher Quality and Autonomy

Finland places a strong emphasis on teacher quality. To become a teacher, one must hold a master’s degree in education, which is heavily subsidized by the government. This requirement ensures that teachers are highly educated and qualified professionals. Moreover, teachers enjoy a high level of autonomy in their classrooms, allowing them to tailor their teaching methods to their students’ needs and interests.

A Focus on Well-Being

Unlike some education systems that prioritize testing and academic achievement above all else, Finland places a significant emphasis on student well-being. Schools in Finland have shorter school days and less homework compared to many other countries. This approach allows students to have a well-rounded childhood and promotes a healthy work-life balance.

Child-Centered Learning

The Finnish education system is characterized by a child-centered approach to learning. Rather than pushing students to memorize facts and figures, Finnish schools emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. This approach fosters a love for learning and encourages students to explore their interests.

Minimal Standardized Testing

In Finland, standardized testing is minimal and not used for accountability purposes. Instead, teachers assess students’ progress through continuous evaluation, with an emphasis on qualitative feedback. This reduces the pressure on students and allows them to focus on learning rather than preparing for tests.

Reduced Homework and Longer Recesses

Finnish students benefit from shorter school days and longer recesses. This break time fosters social skills, creativity, and physical activity. It also contributes to lower stress levels among students and enhances their overall well-being.

Teacher Collaboration

Finnish teachers frequently collaborate with their colleagues to share best practices and ideas. This collaborative approach ensures that innovative teaching methods are disseminated throughout the system and helps maintain high standards of education.

Highly Valued Education Profession

Teaching is a highly respected profession in Finland, and teachers are treated accordingly. This fosters a culture of professionalism and dedication among educators, attracting top talent to the field.

Support for Students with Special Needs

Finland’s inclusive education system provides comprehensive support for students with special needs. Special education teachers work alongside regular classroom teachers to ensure that all students receive the support they require to succeed.

Focus on Lifelong Learning

The Finnish education system instills a love of learning in students that extends beyond their school years. Lifelong learning is encouraged, and adult education programs are widely available, allowing citizens to continue their education throughout their lives.

The Finnish education system’s success lies in its commitment to equality, high-quality teachers, student well-being, and a child-centered approach to learning. By focusing on these key principles, Finland has created a model of education that not only produces strong academic results but also promotes the overall development and happiness of its students. Other countries can certainly learn valuable lessons from Finland’s education system as they seek to improve their own educational outcomes and the well-being of their students.
