Unpredictable Turnarounds

By G Sreekumar Menon IRS

Turnarounds can never be predicted. What is interesting to see is that the guys who were involved in the turnaround in this series and this Test have scripted amazing turnarounds in their real lives too.

Natarajan is the son of a loom worker who had no money for luxuries like cricket gear and shoes. For many years, Natarajan had to think a hundred times before investing in new shoes. His mother cried when she saw him representing India on TV. His wife gave birth to their daughter when Natarajan was playing IPL in UAE. He hasn’t even seen her yet because he went straight to Australia in a bio bubble.

Shardul Thakur battled obesity to play for Mumbai and thereafter IPL. No less than Sachin Tendulkar advised him to lose weight for a great cricketing career ahead of him.

Siraj rose to become India’s new ball bowler despite being born to a poor rickshaw driver. His father died and he couldn’t perform his last rites as he was in Australia on national duty.

Washington Sundar’s father – Sundar, was a talented cricketer who was sponsored by his rich neighbour throughout his local cricketing life. His name was Washington. The man passed away just before Sundar’s second son was born. Sundar named his son Washington as a tribute to his benefactor.

Navdeep Saini’s father was a government driver and could not afford expensive cricket coaching for his son. So Saini played exhibition matches on tennis ball at Rs.300 a match to fund his dreams.

All these guys came together as debutants and have turned this series and this match over its head. All their lives they were waiting for this moment in their cricketing career. All their failures, all their struggles, all their doubts and all their insecurities – all that was settled once and for all in this Test match. When presented with an opportunity, they fired themselves up and attacked Australia with all guns blazing.

In this series, more than any other Test series I have seen in my life, the YOUNG Indian Cricket team has proven their naysayers wrong. They have sustained tremendous pressure and taken hard knocks all over their bodies against one of the best Australian attack ever. And by doing so, they have made us realise that while 5 hour IPL matches can create instant celebrities, Test Cricket, which stretches over five days, creates real heroes.

This 14 Minutes Hypnotic Meditation Can Transform Your Life!

You get it free when you have done 40 Hours Social Service in selected areas of priorities!

By NV Paulose

Learning of the 14 Minutes hypnotic meditation will change your outlook and approach towards life and society. You will find a new meaning about your life and about your future. This meditation method is developed on the principles of Neuro Linguistic Programming. This is added with several experimented and proven steps in making the mind into matter.

The idea of 14 Minutes Hypnotic Meditation training given free is to attract attention of youth towards burning social issues like hunger, shelter and survival of the less privileged and differently abled people in the society. Along with this the youth will be trained to unleash the hidden potential within their own unconscious minds. This is a social drive for the large good.

In society we come across with very dedicated people who are struggling to help the less privileged and differently abled segment of the society. Some of them are individuals who are alone and some others are individuals isolated silently within congregations. Both categories of them need support from the larger society for keeping their dream project alive.

Many social initiatives by various congregations die once the visionary founder dies. Congregations silently acquire the wealth generated through social initiatives and convert them into commercial ventures. Many social ventures like Palliative care are done to a minimum scale just to keep the society donating continuously just for adding up to their huge bank accounts. Creating a status and maintaining the status quo there after is their strategy. This happens when the vessel is not heated up.

We are looking upon the true visionaries who are really amazed the society with their lofty ideas and missionary approach. Many of them have dreams over dreams that require large social support and greater youth participation. We are connecting visionaries with the youth so that the society is ultimately benefitted in large scale. Anyone who has training modules can adopt this method to help the visionaries with lofty ideas and youth who are willing to work for the least and the last in the society.

Problems of khata and payment of property tax.

Forwarded By Veena Shantaram Prabhu

1) BBMP to register Khata we have run from pillar to post
2) After collecting bribe, they issue khata
3) In many cases tax is charged more than the value of area mentioned in the Sale deed
4) As per the Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act 1972, Local body cannot charge separate tax for amenities like clubhouse, gym, etc…
5) After issuing individual khata and collecting tax individually, BBMP refuses collect garbage for which each and everyone of us bleeding extra money for transportation of garbage.
Most of us we take it lightly thinking form high rise building BBMP cannot lift the garbage, we are willingly contributing to the association and in turn the BBMP garbage disposal van after collecting huge amount (from 10 k to 50K) every month they lift the garbage.
Most of us, we are ignorant when individual khata are made and individual tax to BBMP is paid, BBMP is liable to give individual service to us by lifting garbage right form our flat.
BCFOWA is planning to file PIL on this subject.
We are in need of Khata Certificate, Tax Paid receipts of individual apartment and that of clubhouse, Gym etc… We can obtain such documents from BBMP under RTI but this is time consuming and action will be delayed
We appeal apartment owners to share documents relating to Khata Certificate, Tax paid receipts, your sale deed copy, and from associations: having paid tax for Clubhouse, Gym etc…
These documents will facilitate us in fixing the menace created by officers of local body. We look forward your cooperation, by sharing your documents.
We appeal to you, please share your documents like khata certificate, Sale deed, tax paid receipts and from association for having paid tax on clubhouse, gym etc….

We look forward your participation in protecting flat/ apartment owners rights

Address to share documents bcfowa@gmail.com you may contact President BCFOWA : Anil Kalgi 9448822238 for any clarification

The Beginning of Something New

The end of globalization (and the beginning of something new) | Mike O’Sullivan

Recommended by Sri Jose T. Thomas

“Globalization is on its deathbed,” says economist Mike O’Sullivan. The question now is: What’s next? Tracing the historical successes and failures of globalization, O’Sullivan forecasts a new world order where countries come together over shared values rather than geography. Learn how big regional powers like the United States and China will be driven by distinct ways of governing trade, technology and people — while smaller nations will forge new alliances to solve problems.

The world is at a turning point. While globalization benefited many, it produced extremes with drastic wealth inequality, indebtedness, and political volatility among the most important. As the ground underneath globalization undergoes tectonic shifts, noisy, chaotic, and disorderly events–such as Brexit and the election of Donald Trump–are the first harbingers of a world being turned upside down.

In this book, Michael O’Sullivan shows the many ways the levelling of the twenty-first century will unfold: The levelling-out of wealth between rich and poor countries; of power between nations and regions; of political accountability and responsibility between political leaders and “the people”; and of institutional power–away from central banks and defunct twentieth-century institutions such as the WTO and IMF.

The Levelling comes at a crucial time in the rise and fall of nations and has special importance for Americans as their place in the world undergoes radical change–the ebbing of their influence, profound questions over their economic model, the apparent decay in their society, and turmoil in their public life– before their very eyes.

Sunday Story! Forwarded by Sumit S. Rao! increase your own value

Can you increase your own value?

Story Forwarded by Sumit S. Rao

Michael Jordan was born in 1963, in the slums of Brooklyn, New York.

He had four siblings and his father’s earnings were not sufficient to provide for the whole family.

He grew up in a poor neighbourhood. Exposed to mindless violence and heavy discrimination in the slums, he saw for himself only a hopeless future.

His father saw in Michael, a lost soul and decided to do something.

He gave Michael, who was 13 years old, a piece of used clothing and asked: “What do you think the value of this outfit would be?”

Jordan replied,”Maybe one dollar.”

His father asked, “Can you sell it for two dollars? If you can sell it, it would mean that you are a big help to your family.”

Jordan nodded his head, “I’ll try, but no guarantee that I’ll be successful.”

Jordan carefully washed the cloth clean. Because they didn’t have an iron, to smoothen the cloth, he levelled it with a clothes brush on a flat board, then kept it in the sun to dry. The next day, he brought the clothes to a crowded underground station. After offering it for more than six hours. Jordan finally managed to sell it for $2. He took the two dollar bill and ran home.

After that, everyday he looked for used clothing, washed and ironed it, and sold it in the crowd.

More than ten days later, his father again gave him a piece of used clothing, “Can you think of a way you can sell this for 20 bucks?”

Aghast, Jordan said, “How is it possible? This outfit can only fetch two dollars at the most.”

His father replied, “Why don’t you try it first? There might be a way.”

After breaking his head for a few hours, finally, Jordan got an idea.

He asked for cousin’s help to paint a picture of Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse on the garment. Then he tried to sell it in the school where the children of the rich study.

Soon a housekeeper, who was there to pick his master, bought that outfit for his master. The master was a little boy of only 10 years. He loved it so much and he gave a five dollar tip. 25 dollars was a huge amount for Jordan, the equivalent of a month’s salary of his father.

When he got home, his father gave him yet another piece of used clothing, “Are you able to resell it at a price of 200 dollars?” Jordan’s eyes lit up.

This time, Jordan accepted the clothes without the slightest doubt. Two months later a popular movie actress from the movie “Charlie’s Angels”, Farah Fawcett came to New York for her Movie promos. After the press conference, Jordan made his way through the security forces to reach the side of Farah Fawcett and requested her autograph on the piece of clothing. When Fawcett saw this innocent child asking for her autograph, she gladly signed it.

Jordan was shouting very excitedly, “This is a jersey signed by Miss Farah Fawcett, the selling price is 200 dollars!” He auctioned off the clothes, to a businessman for a price of 1,200 dollars!

Upon returning home, his father broke into TEARS and said, “I am amazed that you did it My child! You’re really great! “

That night, Jordan slept alongside his father. His father said, “Son, in your experience selling these three pieces of clothing, what did you learn about success?”

Jordan replied, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

His father nodded his head, then shook his head, “What you say is not entirely wrong! But that was not my intention. I just wanted to show you that a piece of used clothing which is worth only a dollar can also be increased in value, Then how about us – living & thinking humans? We may be darker and poorer, but what if we CAN increase our VALUE.”

This thought enlightened young Jordan. Even a piece of used clothing could be made dignified, then why not me? There is absolutely no reason to underestimate myself.

From then on, Michael Jordan felt that his future would be beautiful and full of hope.

He went on to become the greatest basketball player of all times.

Reflection

How can I increase my own value? A very interesting thought indeed. Ponder on it.
