Puducherry, 5 February 2026 — Emphasising that the future of organ donation in India rests significantly in women’s hands, Rotarian Lal Goel, Founder and Charter President of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International and Chairman of the Organ Donation India Foundation & GYAN, called upon young women to emerge as leaders, decision-makers, and advocates of this life-saving cause.
Addressing students and faculty as Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at Women’s Engineering College, Puducherry, Rotarian Lal Goel invoked the timeless words of Mahatma Gandhi: “If you educate a man, you educate an individual; but if you educate a woman, you educate an entire family.”
Rotarian Lal Goel explained that when a woman understands the importance of organ donation, her awareness naturally spreads—from her family to the neighbourhood, the city, the state, and ultimately the nation. Emphasising the multiplier effect of women’s awareness, he described women as the most powerful change agents in building a culture of consent and compassion.
In his address to the all-women student body, Rotarian Lal Goel urged them to raise their children without gender discrimination, so that the disparity currently evident in organ donation in India can be eliminated in future generations.
Rotarian Ritika Gupta, Inspire President of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International, elaborated on the humanitarian mission of Rotary International and the club’s focused efforts to normalise discussions on organ donation. She appealed to students to become ambassadors of awareness, using education, empathy, and peer leadership to break myths and taboos surrounding donation.
Rotarian Hemalatha Bhandari, President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International, introduced Rotarian Lal Goel as the Chief Guest & Keynote Speaker and highlighted his decades-long commitment to organ donation advocacy at national and international levels.
Dr M. Thanigasalam, Principal of Women’s Engineering College, Puducherry, warmly welcomed Rotarian Goel and noted that such sensitisation programmes play a crucial role in shaping socially responsible engineers and leaders.
Mr V. Sendil Kumar, HOD In-Charge (ECE), expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rotarian Lal Goel and the Rotary team, stating that the session had inspired deep reflection among students and faculty alike.

Addressing an organ donation awareness programme, the first of its kind in the Airport Terminal Building, Puducherry, Rotarian Lal Goel highlighted how airport authorities serve as silent yet indispensable partners in the organ donation ecosystem. He explained that swift coordination, priority clearances, and seamless air connectivity enable the rapid intercity transport of donated organs, ensuring they reach recipient hospitals within critical time limits.
The Chief Guest, Shri K Rajasekhar Reddy, Airport Director, lauded Rotarian Lal Goel’s unwavering commitment to promoting organ donation and acknowledged the growing responsibility of airports in supporting green corridors and time-sensitive medical transfers.
The Guest of Honour Rotarian PHF Deepak Goel, Foundation Chair (2026–27) of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International, shared insights into the rich legacy of Rotary International, founded in 1905. He highlighted Rotary’s global service initiatives in healthcare, education, and community development, noting the organisation’s historic role in the near-eradication of polio worldwide.
Rotarian Hemalatha Bhandari, President-Elect, formally introduced the Keynote Speaker, Rotarian Lal Goel, to the distinguished gathering.
The programme, was jointly organised by the Airports Authority of India and the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International at Puducherry Airport, Puducherry.

ಮಂಗಳೂರು: ಪ್ರಜಾಪಿತ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಕುಮಾರೀಸ್ ಈಶ್ವರೀಯ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಮಹಾಶಿವರಾತ್ರಿ ಪಾವನ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ದಿನಾಂಕ 08-02-2026 ರಂದು ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 10.30ಕ್ಕೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಕುಮಾರೀಸ್, ವಿಶ್ವ ಶಾಂತಿ ಮಂದಿರ, ಗಣಪತಿ ದೇವಾಲಯ ರಸ್ತೆ, ಉರ್ವಸ್ಟೋರ್, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಕ್ತಿಭಾವ, ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಂತಿಯ ವಾತಾವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ದೀಪಪ್ರಜ್ವಲನ ಹಾಗೂ ಶಿವಧ್ವಜಾರೋಹಣದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಮಾರಂಭಕ್ಕೆ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆಯನ್ನು ಕದ್ರಿಯ ಭದ್ರಕಾಳಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಅರ್ಚಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಚಿಂತಕ ಶ್ರೀ ಉಮೇಶನಾಥ ಆಚಾರ್ ಅವರು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನಾ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಾಶಿವರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವ, ಶಿವತತ್ವದ ಅರ್ಥ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಾನವ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಆತ್ಮಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಧ್ಯಾನದ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.
ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಯು. ತಿಮ್ಮಪ್ಪ, ಶ್ರೀ ಕಮಲಾಕ್ಷ, ಶ್ರೀ ಮಂಜುನಾಥ ಆಚಾರ್, ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಚಂಚಲಾ ತೇಜೋಮಯಿ, ಶ್ರೀ ಶರತ್ ಕುಮಾರ್, ಶ್ರೀ ಮೋಹನ್ ಕೆ. ಶ್ರೀಧರನ್, ಶ್ರೀ ವಸಂತ ಸುಭಾಷ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಶ್ರೀ ನಿಶಾನ್ ಬಂಗೇರ ಅವರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಘನತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಕುಮಾರೀಸ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸೇವಾಕಾರ್ಯ, ಮೌಲ್ಯಾಧಾರಿತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಾಶಿವರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವ, ಆತ್ಮ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನ ಸಂಬಂಧ, ರಾಜಯೋಗ ಧ್ಯಾನದ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಂತರಿಕ ಶಾಂತಿಯ ಅಗತ್ಯತೆ ಕುರಿತು ವಿವರವಾದ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಗಳು ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಕುಮಾರೀಸ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರಾದ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಕುಮಾರಿ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರಿ ಧ್ಯಾನದ ಮೂಲಕ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಅಶಾಂತಿ, ಒತ್ತಡ ಮತ್ತು ನಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಚಿಂತನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತರಾಗುವ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಭಕ್ತಿಗೀತೆಗಳು, ಶಿವಸ್ಮರಣಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ, ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಧ್ಯಾನಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಹಾಗೂ ಆತ್ಮಪರಿಶೀಲನಾ ಅಧಿವೇಶನಗಳು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ ಭಕ್ತರು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಅಪಾರ ಆತ್ಮತೃಪ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮನಶಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 100ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಭಕ್ತರು, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರಿಕರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಎಲ್ಲ ವಯೋಮಾನದವರೂ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಿಂದ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ಪಡೆದು, ಆತ್ಮೋನ್ನತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿಯತ್ತ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಇಟ್ಟರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಕುಮಾರೀಸ್ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರು ಎಲ್ಲ ಗಣ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು, ಸಹಕಾರ ನೀಡಿದ ಸೇವಾಕಾರರು, ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಹೃತ್ಪೂರ್ವಕ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು. ಬಿ ಕೆ ಅಂಬಿಕಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಬಿ ಕೆ ರೋಷನ್ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು, ಬಿ ಕೆ ಜಯಶ್ರೀ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಪರಿಚಯ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಬೆಳ್ತಂಗಡಿ, ಫೆ.9: ದ.ಕ.ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಚೂಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ. ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕರು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಸಮಾಜಮುಖಿಯಾಗಿ ಚಿಂತಿಸಿ, ಸಮಾಜದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ 54 ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳಿವೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೇಗೆ ತಯಾರಿ ನಡೆಸಬೇಕೆಂಬ ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಲು ಮುಂದಾಗಿರುವ ಏಕೈಕ ಕಾಲೇಜೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹಿರಿಯ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಪಿ.ಬಿ.ಹರೀಶ್ ರೈ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಗುರುವಾಯನಕೆರೆ ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಪಿಯು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಿಂದ ಸೆ.8 ರಂದು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಆವರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ Walk-in to VIDVATH, A step into success ಎಂಬ ಉಚಿತ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ ಮತ್ತು ವೃತ್ತಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಲೋಕಾರ್ಪಣೆಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.
ಜನ್ಮಕೊಟ್ಟ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿದ್ಯೆಕೊಟ್ಟ ಗುರು ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಸಮಾನ. ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ಶಿಬಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತ ಹರೇಕಳ ಹಾಜಬ್ಬರಂತವರನ್ನು ಕರೆಸಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಲೋಕಾರ್ಪಣೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವುದು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ. ಹಾಗೂ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬಹುದು. ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಯ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶಕ್ಕೆ ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಕಾತುರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಬರುವ ಹತ್ತು ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲೇ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಲಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ನನಗಿದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಶಿಕ್ಷರು ಯಾರು ವೈದ್ಯರಲ್ಲ, ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಗಳಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ನೀವು ಪಡೆದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಮತ್ತು ಗುರುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಪಾರ ಗೌರವ ಇರಲಿ ಎಂದು ಕಿವಿ ಮಾತು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
*ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ತನ್ನಿ: ವಾಕ್ ಇನ್ ಟು ವಿದ್ವತ್, ಎ ಸ್ಟೆಪ್ ಇನ್ ಟು ಸಕ್ಸಸ್ ನಾಮಫಲಕ ಅನಾವರಣ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ ಹರೇಕಳ ಹಾಜಬ್ಬ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಬಡತನವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಿಂದ ವಂಚಿತನಾದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅದರಿಂದ ನಾನು ಪಟ್ಟ ಕಷ್ಟ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರು ಪಡಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನೂರಲ್ಲಿ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಶಾಲೆ ತೆರೆಯುವ ಕನಸು ಕಂಡೆ. ಈ ಅಭಿಲಾಷೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮರವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಿತು. ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ಬಡವನಿಗೆ ಇಂದು ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಬರುವಂತಾಗಿದೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ನಾನು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೈಮುಗಿದು ನಮಿಸುವುದೇನೆಂದರೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ತನ್ನಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ ವಹಿಸಿದ ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಸುಭಾಶ್ಚಂದ್ರ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಭಾರತೀಯ ಮೂಲವಾದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪದದಿಂದ ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಇರಿಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಇಂದು ಪೋಷಕರಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಏನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಆಲೋಚನೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಪರಿತಪಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ವಿದ್ವಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ವಿವೇಚನೆಗಾಗಿ ಉಚಿತ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಇದು ಕೇವಲ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಇದರ ಗಂಭೀರತೆ ಪೋಷಕರಿಗೂ ಅರಿವಿರಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಸದುಪಯೋಗ ಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಭೌತಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾಲಯ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿದ ಬೆಳ್ತಂಗಡಿ ಸಿರೋ ಮಲಬಾರ್ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಗುರುಗಳಾದ ಫಾ.ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ವಲಿಯಪರಂಬಿಲ್ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಯುವ ಪೀಳಿಗೆ ಬೆರೆತುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಉತ್ತಮ ಅವಕಾಶವನ್ನು ವಿದ್ವತ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದೆ. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಜತೆಗೆ ಅವರ ಭವಿಷ್ಯ ರೂಪಿಸುವ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಚಿಂತನೆಗೆ ಕಾಲೇಜನ್ನು ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಈ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿ, ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕವಾಗಿ ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಿ, ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮಿಸಿ, ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬೆಳೆದು ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ಮಾನವರಾಗಿ ಎಂದು ಸಂದೇಶ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ರಸಾಯನಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾಲಯ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ತಹಶೀಲ್ದಾರ್ ಪೃಥ್ವಿ ಸಾನಿಕಮ್ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ನಾವು ಬೇರೆಯವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತುಲನೆ ಮಾಡಬಾರದು. ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಇರುವುದು ಕಲಿಯಲು ಅಲ್ಲ, ಹೊರತಾಗಿ ಅವಿಷ್ಕರಿಸಲು. ಅವಿಷ್ಕರಿಸುವವರು ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಿಮ್ಮ ಆಲೋಚನಾ ಲಹರಿಯನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿ ಎಂದು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಜೀವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾಲಯ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿದ ಕುವೆಟ್ಟು ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೆ ಭಾರತಿ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಹಿಂದೆ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಇಂದು ಉತ್ತಮ ಅಂಕಗಳಿಸಲು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಹಗಲು ಎನ್ನದೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಈ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಸಿಗಲಿ ಎಂದು ಹಾರೈಸಿದರು.
ಸನ್ಮಾನ ವಿಶೇಷ ಆಹ್ವಾನಿತರಾದ ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂತ ಹರೇಕಳ ಹಾಜಬ್ಬ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಹಾಗೂ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ ಪಿ.ಬಿ.ಹರೀಶ್ ರೈ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಾಲೇಜು ವತಿಯಿಂದ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಉಚಿತ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಂದಾಯಿಸಿದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಹುಮಾನವಾಗಿ ನೀಡುವ ಟಿ.ಶರ್ಟ್ ನ್ನು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಸುಭಾಶ್ಚಂದ್ರ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಅನಾವರಣ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

His presence will continue to guide many, long after his formal retirement, which itself became a celebration of gratitude.
For over three decades, Prof. Bhaskar Hegde stood at the confluence of journalism and education, embodying both professions with uncommon integrity. His career, spanning 33 years of service, was not merely about teaching journalism as a craft but about nurturing it as a responsibility anchored in ethics, discipline, and social consciousness.
From the Field to the Classroom
Before becoming a revered academic, Prof. Bhaskar Hegde began his professional journey as a working journalist in Hubballi, where he spent three formative years reporting from the field. This grounding in real-world journalism would later define his teaching philosophy.
He did not teach journalism as a theory divorced from reality. He taught it as a lived experience.
In August 1993, he joined SDM College, Ujire, marking the beginning of a relationship that would transform the institution and leave an indelible imprint on journalism education in the state. Over the years, he rose to become Head of the Department of Journalism, a role he fulfilled with quiet authority and unwavering commitment. Students continued to learn with him for long years after they joined the media career.
The Teacher Who Built Journalists and Humans
Those who studied under Prof. Bhaskar Hegde remember him not for flamboyance, but for discipline, clarity, and purpose. His classrooms were spaces of seriousness and sincerity, where deadlines mattered, facts mattered more, and ethics mattered above all.

Journalism at SDM – a real model for rural India
Under the leadership of Prof. Bhaskar Hegde, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at SDM College, Ujire grew into a truly state-of-the-art academic centre, setting a national benchmark from a rural setting. At a time when quality media education was largely urban-centric, he demonstrated that excellence could be built in a village through vision, discipline and academic integrity. Over his 33 years of service, the department evolved with modern studios, strong practical orientation, community-centred pedagogy and a rigorous academic culture, making it a model studied and admired beyond Karnataka. This transformation was made possible through the unconditional institutional support of the SDM management, particularly the foresight and encouragement of Late Prof. B. Yashovarma, then Principal of the college and Secretary of the SDM Educational Society, Ujire, whose faith in decentralised, value-driven education enabled the department to grow without compromise.
One of the most enduring contributions of Prof. Bhaskar Hegde’s leadership is Nammoora Varthe. This grassroots journalism initiative went far beyond classroom training to become an instrument of development support journalism. Through consistent, ethical and people-centred reporting, Nammoora Varthe highlighted local issues related to livelihoods, health, education, governance and social welfare, leading to tangible improvements in the lives of hundreds of families across the region. Several cases saw long-ignored civic problems receive administrative attention, welfare benefits reach deserving households, and community initiatives gain wider participation. By giving ordinary citizens a credible voice and following up on real issues with responsibility, Nammoora Varthe demonstrated how journalism, when rooted in empathy and accountability, can act as a catalyst for positive change at the grassroots level.
An Academic Leader of Statewide Impact
Prof. Bhaskar Hegde ’s contribution was not confined to a single institution. Over the years, he served as a member and head of Boards of Studies and Examination Boards of several universities and autonomous colleges across Karnataka. In these roles, he helped shape curricula, assessment standards, and academic frameworks that influenced journalism education at a systemic level.
His peers recognised him as a principled academic, methodical, fair, and deeply committed to academic rigour. Decisions under his guidance were known to prioritise long-term educational value over short-term convenience. He remained an authority in Journalism.

When Prof. Bhaskar Hegde retired, it was evident that his leaving marked the end of an era. Journalism students from batches spanning more than three decades, dating back to 1993, returned to SDM College, Ujire, to honour the mentor who had shaped their lives.
The event, aptly titled Bhaskara Parva, was not a farewell in the traditional sense. It was a celebration of gratitude. The atmosphere was one of nostalgia, reverence, and collective memory. A documentary chronicling his life and contributions was released, alongside souvenirs dedicated in his honour, capturing the scale of his influence. What stood out most was not the formality of the event, but the emotion it carried.
Students across generations were united by a shared respect for a teacher who had asked little for himself but demanded the best from others for the enrichment of their own career and future.
A Legacy That Endures
Prof. Bhaskar Hegde ’s legacy does not reside in titles or positions alone. It lives in the newsroom editor who refuses to compromise facts, in the reporter who chooses courage over convenience, in the teacher who insists on ethics before excellence.
He demonstrated that journalism education is not about producing content makers, but about shaping conscience keepers of society. His life serves as a reminder that the true measure of a teacher lies not in what is taught, but in what endures.
As institutions evolve and media landscapes shift, the values Prof. Bhaskar Hegde stood for discipline, integrity, humility, and service remain timeless. His journey affirms a simple but profound truth. When a teacher teaches with conviction, generations listen, even long after the classroom falls silent. Mangalore University has conferred the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree upon Venkatesha Nayak for his research contribution in the field of Economics.

Venkatesha Nayak submitted his doctoral thesis titled “Financial Inclusion in Koraga Community – A Case Study of Dakshina Kannada District”. The study analyses the extent, challenges, and outcomes of financial inclusion initiatives among the Koraga community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), and offers policy-relevant insights for inclusive development in Dakshina Kannada district.
The research was carried out under the guidance of Dr Jayavantha Nayak, Professor of Economics, University College, Mangaluru. The thesis was evaluated by the external examiner Dr S N Yogish, Professor and Chairman, Department of PG Studies in Economics, Kuvempu University, who also conducted the viva voce examination and one more external examiner was Dr Rajendran, Senior Professor and Department of Economics Head, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Tamilnadu
The award of the doctorate was announced following the successful viva voce held in the presence of Dr Jagadeesh T, Professor and Chairman, Department of Economics, Mangalore University; Dr Muniraju Y, Professor and former Dean of Commerce and Management, Mangalore University;Dr Ramakrishna B M, Professor and Head, Department of Economics, University College, Mangaluru; Dr Subhashini Srivatsa, Professor; Dr Jagadeesh, Professor from the Department of Commerce, University College; Dr Madhava, Associate Professor, Department of Kannada; Rajesh Kumar; along with other faculty members and research scholars.
Venkatesha Nayak is the son of Sri Gopalakrishna Nayak and the late Smt. Jyothi Nayak. His wife, Kavya P Hegde, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and International Studies, Central University of Kerala, Kasaragod, was also present on the occasion.
The doctoral research is expected to contribute meaningfully to academic literature and policy discussions on financial inclusion and tribal development, particularly in the context of Karnataka.

ഇന്നലെ ഞാൻ കോഴിക്കോട് JamJoom സൂപ്പർമാർക്കറ്റിൽ പോയി. സാധനങ്ങളെല്ലാം എടുത്തു കഴിഞ്ഞ് പണം നൽകാനായി വരി നിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ, ഫോൺ പോക്കറ്റിൽ വെക്കുന്നതിനിട യിൽ എൻ്റെ കയ്യിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന 500 രൂപയുടെ നോട്ട് താഴെ വീണു. തൊട്ടു മുന്നിൽ പണം നൽകി സാധനങ്ങൾ വാങ്ങുകയായിരുന്ന ഒരാൾ പതുക്കെ കുനിഞ്ഞ് ആ നോട്ടെടുത്തു.
അയാൾക്ക് നന്ദി പറയാൻ തയ്യാറെടുത്ത്, ഞാൻ കൈ നീട്ടി നിന്നു. എന്നാൽ അയാളുടെ മറുപടി എന്നെ ഞെട്ടിച്ചു കളഞ്ഞു! “നിലത്ത് വീണു കിട്ടുന്ന സാധനം അത് എടുക്കുന്നവൻ്റെതാണ്!” ഇത്രയും പറഞ്ഞ് ഒന്നുമറിയാത്ത ഭാവത്തിൽ അയാൾ അവിടെ നിന്നും നടന്നു പോയി.
പിന്നിൽ നിന്നവരും ചുറ്റുമുള്ളവരും അവിശ്വസനീയതയോടെയും ഞെട്ടലോടെയും പരസ്പരം നോക്കി പിറുപിറുക്കുന്നത് ഞാൻ കണ്ടു. ഒരു നിമിഷം ഞാൻ ആകെ തരിച്ചുനിന്നുപോയി. എനിക്ക് ദേഷ്യവും സങ്കടവും വന്നു. എന്തെങ്കിലും ചെയ്യണം എന്ന് ഞാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. കയ്യിൽ Gpay ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നതിനാ ലും നോട്ട് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടതിനാലും വാങ്ങിയ സാധനങ്ങൾ അവിടെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ഞാൻ അയാളുടെ പിന്നാലെ പാർക്കിംഗിലേക്ക് ഓടി.
എന്താണ് സംഭവിക്കാൻ പോകുന്നതെന്ന ആകാംക്ഷയോടെ വരിയിൽ നിന്നവരും എൻ്റെ പിന്നാലെ വന്നു. ഞാൻ അയാളോട് പണം തിരിച്ചു ചോദിച്ചു, പക്ഷേ എന്നെ കണ്ട ഭാവം പോലും നടിക്കാതെ പുച്ഛത്തോടെ അയാൾ നടന്നു. അയാൾ തൻ്റെ കാറിനടുത്തെത്തി. വണ്ടിയുടെ ചാവി എടുക്കുന്നതിനായി കയ്യിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന രണ്ട് വലിയ ഷോപ്പിംഗ് ബാഗുകൾ അയാൾ തറയിൽ വെച്ചു.
ഞാൻ ചിന്തിച്ചു – ഇതാണ് സമയം!
ഞാൻ ആ രണ്ട് ബാഗുകളും കൈക്കലാക്കി, അയാൾ എന്നോട് പറഞ്ഞ അതേ വാചകം തിരിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു: “നിലത്ത് കിടക്കുന്ന സാധനം അത് കാണുന്നവൻ്റെതാണ്!” പേടിയും ചിരിയും കലർന്ന ആവേശത്തോടെ ഞാൻ അവിടെ നിന്നും ഓടി.
അവിടെ കൂടി നിന്നവർ കൈയടിച്ച് എന്നെ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിച്ചു. ആ “ബുദ്ധിമാൻ” ആകെ ദേഷ്യം വന്ന് പാർക്കിംഗിലെ സെക്യൂരിറ്റി കോണുകളൊക്കെ ഇടിച്ചുതെറിപ്പിച്ചാണ് വണ്ടിയോടിച്ചു പോയത്.
അഡ്രിനാലിൻ ഇരച്ചു കയറിയ ആ നിമിഷത്തിന് ശേഷം ചക്കും കടവ് എൻ്റെ വീട്ടിലെത്തി. ആ ബാഗുകൾ തുറന്നു നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ അതിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്:
