This disparity between modern toll collection and traditional road repair methods is not only striking but also raises important questions | Global TV

Modern Ways for Toll Collection; Traditional Ways for Road Repair; Can we Look into this Disparity?

By Rajesh Daddangadi

As we drive through the highways, we can’t help but notice the stark contrast between the modern toll collection systems and the traditional, often ineffective, methods of road repair. This disparity raises important questions about our priorities and the efficient use of resources.

On one hand, toll collection has become a streamlined and technologically advanced process. With the advent of electronic toll collection (ETC) systems, cashless transactions, and mobile payments, the process of paying tolls has become faster, more convenient, and instant. The use of technology has also enabled increased revenue collection; for whom; God Knows!

On the other hand, road repair and maintenance often seem to be stuck in a time warp. Despite the importance of well-maintained roads for public safety, economic growth, and quality of life, the methods used for road repair are often labor-intensive, time-consuming, and ineffective. The use of traditional materials and techniques can lead to roads that are prone to damage, require frequent repairs, and pose safety risks to users.

This disparity between modern toll collection and traditional road repair methods is not only striking but also raises important questions. Can we not leverage technology and innovation to improve road repair and maintenance? Can we not allocate a portion of the toll revenue towards investing in modern road repair techniques and materials?

It is time for us to rethink our approach to road maintenance and repair. By embracing technology, innovation, and modern methods, we can create safer, more durable, and more sustainable roads. It is only by addressing this disparity that we can truly say that our roads are fit for the 21st century. It is important to invest the money collected on the Road for the Road.

A series of events turned his life in an entirely new direction | This is the story about Prof. RV Sooraj, once a reluctant teacher, transformed into a great inspiration | Global TV

The Unintended Journey | Prof. RV Sooraj Found His Calling very strong in Teaching | He never wanted to be or even taken it as an option to reckon with | Global TV

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

Sometimes, life’s most fulfilling paths remain unknown to us for a much longer time. Later, we may stumble upon them unexpectedly. It is not very likely to happen that way when we consciously choose not to get there for various reasons. But, Prof. RV Sooraj turned to become a fascinating and a fantastic teacher.

For Prof. RV Sooraj, the accomplished Principal of Moti Mahal College of Hotel Management, teaching was never part of his grand plan. In fact, it was not even the last thing in his mind. A man of high ambition on professional fortunes, his dreams were first stuck on engineering, but later, firmly rerouted towards the fast paced world of hospitality management, not in the quiet halls of academia.

But as destiny would have it, a series of events turned his life in an entirely new direction, one that he hadn’t planned but would come to embrace with passion and purpose. This is the story about Prof. RV Sooraj, once a reluctant teacher, transformed into a great inspiration and leadership in the world of education.

“It was a sudden turnaround to choose hospitality as my career path for various reasons.” He said. He made few attempts to get into engineering. It didn’t happened for the larger good, as we see him passionately enjoying teaching in the professional hotel management streams. He is proficient in English language teaching as well. It had happened as an outcome of sheer coincidence and many antecedents in that way. He thank former Principal for assigning him teaching sessions back to back. Many times he didn’t get time even to get into the comforts of the Staffroom, but he had enjoyed those busyness.

The Early Dreams: A Career in Hospitality

RV Sooraj had the flair for leadership and an entrepreneurial mind set very much. Soon, He set his sights on carving out a name for himself in the hospitality industry. After graduating in hotel management, he quickly climbed the corporate ladder, excelling in various managerial roles at renowned hotel chains.

He was always fascinated by the energy of the hospitality world. The constant buzz, the challenges, and the opportunities to create memorable experiences for the guests were all fascinating for him. He cherished and did his duties with utmost involvement and engagement. The duty was time bound and he had plenty of time every day prior and after his duty time. That was a challenge to him.

Simplicity was one of his fundamental principles in life then which he continues to observe now also. But, simply siting was not an option for him. He took up two different programs, one in the morning prior to the job and one in the evening after the job. The second one was MA English which had helped him to teach English when he got a chance to fill the requirement in the college.

Sooraj R.V. – Principal

  • Date of Birth: 30-05-1978
  • Experience: 26 years in the hospitality industry, 18 years in teaching
  • Education: Postgraduate in English Literature, Tourism, and Hotel Management
  • Work Experience: Worked abroad for a few years

Life-Altering Midnight Collision

It was a fateful December night in 2000, near the Kallai mosque at Calicut, that Prof. RV Sooraj’s life took an unexpected turn. Returning home after a night movie, he was heavily struck by a police van. Witnesses rushed to the scene, and tension quickly escalated as the intoxicated state of the police driver became evident.

A crowd gathered, angered by the negligence, and confronted the police. What followed was chaos; more police were called, and the police opened lathi charge. By the next morning, the newspapers carried the news Sooraj’s photograph. Many mistakenly thought as he succumbed to the accident. While the clash made news headlines, the man at the centre of it has started to face a deep personal battle.

The Long Road to Recovery

The accident left Prof. Sooraj with severe injuries. A fractured hip and multiple other wounds were all more than a person can easily afford. Doctors declared surgery unviable, prescribing complete bed rest and cautioning against any form of vigorous activity. For weeks, he was confined to his home, struggling with both physical pain and the emotional toll of inactivity.

His career in hotel industry seemed impossible to resume under these precarious circumstances. Feeling the weight of isolation and uncertainty, RV Sooraj began contemplating his next steps. Amid this period of introspection, a spark ignited; an appreciation at the first instance of teaching; a passive realization that teaching, a profession he had never previously considered, could offer a way forward.

A Teacher by Circumstance, a Mentor by Choice

Determined to make use of his time, RV Sooraj embraced teaching as a temporary solution. The teaching profession allowed him to remain seated or stationary, accommodating his physical limitations. Yet, what began as a pragmatic choice soon became a passion. In the classroom, Sooraj discovered a new purpose. He could easily connect with students and sharing his industry expertise.

Over time, his commitment to teaching deepened, and he transitioned from Calicut to prestigious institutions like Munnar Catering College. The accident, which had initially seemed like an insurmountable setback, became the turning point that reshaped his life and career. From pain emerged a new calling, and RV Sooraj found fulfilment in nurturing the next generation of hospitality professionals.

Reflection: A Calling Found by Accident

Today, as he looks back on his journey, Prof. RV Sooraj often marvels at how life brought him to where he is. What began as an unintended detour turned into a fulfilling career, one that has touched countless lives and redefined his future in the hospitality education sector.

“Teaching wasn’t something I chose,” he says with a smile. “It chose me. And for that, I will always be grateful.”

Prof. Sooraj’s story is a testimony to the idea that sometimes, the paths we resist the most are the ones that lead us to our true purpose. His journey from a reluctant guest lecturer to a dedicated teacher and visionary leader is very inspiring. Life’s greatest rewards often come from embracing the unexpected.

Let us relook Once Again!

Teaching was nowhere on the radar. “To be honest, I thought of teaching as a static profession, with no respect whatsoever it supposed to fetch.”

“I went in thinking it was a one-time thing,” he says. “I wasn’t prepared for how deeply it would affect me.” Standing in front of a room full of eager young faces, sharing his experiences, and watching students light up with understanding was a revelation. He saw the immense potential in shaping young minds, in preparing them for the challenges of the industry he knew so well.

“That lecture changed something in me,” he reflects. “I realized that I wasn’t just sharing knowledge; I was passing on a legacy, and that felt deeply meaningful.”

A Reluctant Shift

Despite this newfound realization, Sooraj wasn’t ready to give up his corporate career. It took several more years, and a series of chance invitations to teach and mentor, for him to consider a permanent shift to academia.

The final push came during a particularly challenging phase in his life. Burned out from the relentless demands of the hospitality industry and searching for a deeper sense of purpose, he decided to take a sabbatical. During this time, he was offered a full-time teaching position at Moti Mahal College. “At first, I thought of it as a temporary detour,” he admits. “I told myself I’d try it out for a year and then go back to the industry. But something about the experience kept me there.”

Discovering a Passion for Teaching

What Prof. Sooraj initially saw as a detour soon became his true calling. As he immersed himself in the world of education, he discovered the joy of mentoring young minds and the satisfaction of watching his students thrive.

“Teaching wasn’t just about delivering lectures,” he explains. “It was about guiding students, helping them discover their potential, and watching them grow into confident professionals. That was a reward I had never experienced in my corporate career.”

His industry experience brought a unique perspective to the classroom. He was instrumental in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. His students didn’t just learn theories; they learned how to think, adapt, and lead.

As the Principal of Moti Mahal College of Hotel Management, Prof. Sooraj has been instrumental in redefining hospitality education, blending traditional values with modern industry requirements to create a holistic learning experience for students.

A Legacy of Academic and Professional Excellence

Prof. RV Sooraj’s journey is one of dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence. With a strong academic background and years of hands-on industry experience, he brings a rare combination of theoretical knowledge and practical insights to his role as Principal. His leadership at Motimahal College is characterized by a commitment to nurturing talent and empowering students with skills that meet global standards.

Moti Mahal College has become a centre of excellence in hospitality education. Prof. Sooraj has consistently emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academia and the industry.

He has championed a unique approach that combines classroom teaching with real-world exposure. From internships at five-star properties to workshops with industry veterans, students are equipped to face the challenges of the hospitality industry head-on.

The college’s placement records stand as a testament to Prof. Sooraj’s dedication. Soft skills training, language proficiency workshops, and cultural sensitivity sessions are regular features at the college national conference food festival, ensuring that students are not only skilled but also empathetic and adaptable.

A Vision for the Future

Prof. Sooraj’s vision goes beyond the confines of Moti Mahal College. He dreams of transforming the hospitality education landscape by making it globally competitive while retaining its unique cultural ethos. Through his work, he inspires not only his students but also his peers and the larger academic community to aim higher and think bigger.

The Beauty in Doing Small Things | Once you like it you do it continually if not continuously | Join with Global TV and Celebrate doing small things | +91 98441 82044

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

Grand gestures and monumental achievements often take centre stage in most of our stories and narratives. It is pretty natural to overlook the beauty in doing small things. But, it is these precisely small things that helps you to discover the essence of your person and vision. Every Great Mission is a combination of several tiny small little things. Rather, they are the culmination of several such actions.

Precision and perfection in doing small things make you perfect. Once you have perfected the art progress, it is all about multiplication of those small actions and the scaling up of the same. Many unsung actions and untold stories bring about significant positive change in our lives and in the lives of those around us.

At Global TV, we believe in the power of small actions to create a big impact in the world. Our initiatives are all aimed to inspire and empower individuals to make a difference in their communities, one small step at a time.

One of the themes for Global TV shooting sessions with Legends and Leaders is “Small Actions; Greater Perfection.” Instead of talking big about what others to do, we get into what we can do at individual level, but collectively with others.

Media can make things massive and collaborative. Global TV has a rich heritage of creating great impact by doing small things. We pitch all our small little actions and tend to anchor the whole of our future dreams or dreams about our collective future in the pretext of doing small things. We do them with great passion and compassion. You are invited to join hands with us in your own pace and terms.

Do you find beauty in doing small things? Here are a few things among plenty of great things that can be practiced across the world with Global TV.

Experience Hunger and explore the horizons of addressing hunger:

Hunger is the First among 17 Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nation. With all due respect, we shall tell you that the UN can do nothing about it just because of their operational cost. 90% the spending of the United Nation must be going for their system itself. This is not the problem only with organisations like United Nation. This is the problem with every Capital Model.

Cost of feeding the system should not go beyond 30% or else the system will kill by the system itself. This is a fundamental economic principle that the world can learn from anything and everything in the nature. Animals do not use storage systems. Trees produce larger amount of fruits and give it free to all around.

We should think twice before making a capital expenditure, particularly in todays globalized and digitalized environment. Is it necessary and viable making huge buildings? Is it worth making a capital expenditure that comes with an additional operational cost? Make use of innovative ways and means to fetch the things that you need to invest heavily otherwise. Many things are possible with a collective and collaborative approach. Media can make it massive and outstanding.

Role of Home Kitchen and Community Kitchen in addressing Hunger:

The power of hunger is very significant and very much effective in making people to come together and to work together to address it. Those who have experienced hunger ever in their life will remember it always for sure. Remembering those who have fed us with compassion will be very joyful. Feeding hands get more joy filled than the bellies that are filled with their kindness and noble actions.

Experiencing hunger is a great step that we can take towards our manifestations and also towards addressing hunger itself. We will get into greater action when we foster a sense of community and connectivity within the community.

Small actions such as volunteering at a local community kitchen or preparing hot snacks at your home kitchen and giving them to those in neighbourhoods are all very valuable steps towards addressing this large global issue. The issue will only remain until we people take things in our own hands. No system can address the issue by putting everything under one roof and into few hands.

Those who can afford to find time may kindly do it. Those who are happy to do it on a regular basis can mobilize required funds with Global TV advertisements and scale up your actions by inspiring others to join hands with you.

Small actions can have a ripple effect. No one can do even small things on large scale regularly with out and appropriate revenue model. No one, including the United Nation does any such actions without developing a revenue model. All that you should do is to use Global TV platform to fetch advertisements and form a team by inspiring others to follow suit and create a wave of positive change.

The beauty in doing small things lies in their potential to create a profound impact on our lives and the world around us. By embracing the power of small actions, we can cultivate a more compassionate, sustainable, and mindful world.

Taking responsibility is the most effective and fulfilling way to Success | Sridhar Aranala, Vice President of Sales and Distribution at The Hindu Group | Global TV

St. Aloysius University Hosts Inspirational Session on Professional Success | “Navigating the Professional Landscapes: Skills Needed for Success.” | Global TV

December 12, 2024  Mangalore

In his insightful address at St. Aloysius University, Mr. Sridhar Aranala, Vice President of Sales and Distribution at The Hindu Group, emphasized a crucial distinction between mere attendance and true attentiveness. With over three decades of experience across diverse industries such as FMCG, telecom, and media, Mr. Aranala is a well-respected figure in business and leadership. His career includes leadership roles at Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel, and Tata Communications, and his expertise has been further sharpened with an Executive General Management Program from IIM Bangalore.

Speaking to the students during the session on “Navigating the Professional Landscapes: Skills Needed for Success,” Mr. Aranala stressed that while attending a class or session is important, it is attentiveness that truly matters. Physical presence without engagement, he explained, serves no purpose. He urged the students to be actively involved, listening intently, processing the information, and implementing the knowledge shared. His message emphasised that success in the professional world requires more than just showing up; it demands a commitment to learning and growth.

Mr. Aranala, a pioneer of growth and innovation at The Hindu Group since 2012, took the students through a lightweight guided tour towards dreaming and achieving excellence. His session focused on the skills needed to navigate the evolving professional landscape. The audience, composed of students from various disciplines, including BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBM, and BBA, as well as postgraduate students, were given the opportunity to engage with him on his thougths on leadership, business acumen, and professional growth.

Embracing Purpose and Ownership for Success

A key theme of Mr. Sridhar Aranala’s address was the powerful concept of purpose and ownership. He encouraged the students to deeply reflect on why they are pursuing their current educational path, whether in their courses or future careers. According to Mr. Aranala, true success is not just about achieving external goals, but about taking full ownership of one’s journey. He emphasized that students should understand the importance of every decision they make and approach their studies with a sense of responsibility and commitment.

Rather than making excuses or procrastinating, students should take proactive steps to shape their future. By owning their path, they empower themselves to overcome challenges, learn from failures, and take decisive actions that align with their long-term goals. This mind-set is essential for achieving lasting success in any professional landscape.

The Broken Glass Metaphor: Confronting Life’s Challenges

Mr. Sridhar Aranala introduced a thought-provoking metaphor to illustrate how individuals typically respond to challenges in life. He compared life’s problems to broken glass scattered across a walkway. When faced with obstacles, he explained, there are three common responses: removing the glass (solving the problem directly), avoiding the glass (sidestepping the issue), or ignoring the glass (pretending it isn’t there).

While avoiding or ignoring challenges might offer temporary relief, the proactive approach of removing the glass; taking responsibility for addressing problems head-on; is the most effective and fulfilling way to make it worth. By confronting issues directly, individuals not only resolve immediate concerns but also build resilience and develop problem-solving skills. This approach fosters a deeper sense of ownership and empowerment, ultimately leading to a more impactful and meaningful life.

His message encouraged students to face difficulties with determination, embrace responsibility, and never shy away from challenges.

Key Principles for Personal and Professional Success:

Mr. Sridhar Aranala highlighted several key principles essential for personal and professional success. He stressed the importance of lifelong learning. The journey of learning doesn’t end after exams or graduation. In today’s rapidly evolving professional landscape, embracing a mind-set of continuous learning fosters personal growth, adaptability, and the ability to stay ahead of the curve. This philosophy of never stopping the learning process is crucial in staying relevant in any field.

He noted that when students recognize the long-term impact of each assignment, decision, or action, they become more responsible and take ownership of their time and efforts. The key to overcoming procrastination, he explained, is realizing that every action contributes to shaping the future.

Another important lesson was the balance between sensitivity and sensibility. Aranala pointed out that while sensitivity involves reacting emotionally to situations, sensibility is about responding wisely and with focus. Those who can find this balance will navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

In a society that often encourages complaining, Aranala urged students to break away from this culture and take responsibility for their lives. Instead of blaming external factors, he advocated for adopting a mind-set of accountability, where challenges are viewed as opportunities for personal growth.

Similarly, he emphasized that success is a deeply personal concept and should not be based on societal standards like exam ranks. True success, he argued, comes from knowing one’s purpose, taking ownership of outcomes, and using individual strengths to define one’s own path.

He highlighted the importance of gratitude. Recognizing the efforts of others, from parents to workers behind the scenes, nurtures humility, which is essential for both personal and professional development.

His message was clear: theoretical knowledge alone is not enough. Applying the insights gained in real-world situations is what truly leads to success. By moving beyond theory and taking steps to implement what’s learned, students can turn their knowledge into tangible achievements and progress.

The session was an interactive one, allowing students to ask questions and gain practical knowledge from someone with vast experience in the corporate world. The theme of the session, “Navigating the Professional Landscapes: Skills Needed for Success,” could attract large number of students, and had helped in equipping them with valuable tools for their future careers.

St. Aloysius has a Legacy of Visionary Education and Intellectual Discourse | Fr. Praveen Martis SJ | Vice Chancellor | Presidential Address

Fr. Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor of St. Aloysius University, delivered an inspiring presidential address, shedding light on the rich history of both St. Aloysius College and The Hindu Group.

St. Aloysius began its journey in 1880, following a request from the local community to the Pope to establish an educational institution in Mangalore. The Jesuit missionaries, recognizing the region’s need for quality education, started the college, with Fr. Joseph Belli becoming the first principal of the college. Fr. Martis reflected on how the institution has evolved over the years, impacting generations of students.

The Vice Chancellor also spoke warmly of his personal connection with The Hindu Group, recalling how, as a child, he was introduced to the newspaper by his father, a testimony to the group’s influence on shaping intellectual discourse in India. He lauded the contributions of The Hindu Group to Indian democracy and journalism.

St. Aloysius University continues to innovate different methods and programs to inspire students to involve in the learning process.

Visit Global TV (globaltv.in) and read the articles written on ‘hunger’ to learn more about our initiatives and how you can get involved in making a difference, one small step at a time. Together we can make a real difference around us.

Fantastic Financial Support for Women Enterprises in the Most Affordable Terms | Union Nari Shakti | Easy Steps | CA SS Nayak | +91 98453 21005

By CA SS Nayak

India’s premier public sector bank, Union Bank of India, has fantastic schemes for women enterprises. The tagline of the bank is “Good People to Bank With”. It truly resonates with the spirit of entrepreneurship, especially when one explores the Union Nari Shakti scheme.

Normally, when any entrepreneur wants to set up an enterprise, a 25% promoter’s margin is required.

For Example: If the cost of the project is ₹10 lakhs, the promoter must bring in a margin of ₹2.5 lakhs, and the balance 75% is funded by the banks. However, Union Bank of India offers an exceptional and pro-entrepreneurial support system for women entrepreneurs, enabling them to achieve their dreams with ease.

Women entrepreneurs are thrilled to avail of this entrepreneur-friendly scheme. The Union Nari Shakti Scheme stands as a symbol of empowerment and encouragement for women who wish to carve their niche in the world of business.
