As we sat down to converse, after CA SS Nayak quickly cleared his pending tasks in the busy morning, the emphasis for both of us was on “walking the talk.” I told him about a beehive with Queen Bee, Female Workers Bees, Make defender Bees. We are keen to write about the Queen Bees in the society; I told him.
We write about the Queen Bees or as we say in contemporary style; about the King Makers; the ones who make an impact in the society. CA SS Nayak with enormous amount of performance stories and history was counted like plenty of Queen Bees incarnated into one unique personality. His actions always speak louder. His words are also very powerful. He is an orator, achiever, mentor and companion to many people across the spectrum beyond all kinds of boundaries.
What worked for him more than CA is CS which we always advocate and point out as a missing factor in Indian Economic Eco System. CS is Common Sense that he had applied in plenty in his profession and passionate, personal, social and service segment of his career. He was willing to step into unknown territories and to master the territories with proficiency and performance excellence.
His story had unfolded like a prescript film. From his village Sasthan, Udupi, he had first come down to Mangalore. As an inevitable consequence of his choice to become a CA, he went to the bustling life of Mumbai. Lived with minimum facilities and honoured his mother’s word that you can do it if you really want to. She had the wisdom to make enquiries and to alert him about the challenges in getting into the stream of Chartered Accountancy. Few only make it; but I will do it was his deep determination. He did it; first part in Mumbai and later part at Mangalore.

As our conversation went unfolding; and with a wealth of experience and a unique perspective on life, society, and development, CA SS Nayak shared his insights on what it makes him proud about the journey that had made him successful and responsible. He had attributed his love for family as one of the prime factors that keeps him happy always. Ninety-nine percent of the people who had come to me had become successful. Many had become huge tax payers to the exchequer.
What more I need to cherish my career and personal life? He was in a mood to talk more. Work was happening on an ongoing fervour. Our conversation was being recorded for preparing a feature on Global TV, India’s first internet TV, which has been broadcasting since 2002. With a rich history that includes airing the voice of former President Abdul Kalam first time in internet, Global TV has been at the forefront of innovative storytelling. We are unique; I said him.
We told him about the song that was written by Dr. Kalam during his Presidential tenure, sung by Didi Usha Uthup, that Global TV had released on 25 July 2007. It was a sensation during NATCON 2024 when Areff Salauroo | CEO – La Sentinelle Group from Mauritius presented it instead of talking about lessons from Mauritius. The Foundation of a Legacy
CA Nayak’s story began with a bold move from Mumbai back to Mangalore in the late 1980s. After clearing his CA final exams and earning his Certificate of Practice, he opened his first office on June 25, 1988, at Mangala Complex, opposite Venkatramana Temple. The Mangalore of that era was vastly different; MG Road was lined with paddy fields, including the TMA Pai Convention Centre that we see today. Establishing a practice came with significant challenges. For the first month, CA SS Nayak found himself without a single client.

Undeterred by the slow start or no start, he took on project report preparations under government schemes like the PMRY (Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana) and PMGP (Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme). These initiatives provided subsidies to budding entrepreneurs, and CA SS Nayak seized the opportunity to assist them by creating detailed reports.
In one remarkable month followed to the maiden month, he prepared about 100 project reports, charging ₹100-200 per report. This not only secured his income but also helped build a reputation for reliability and excellence. Those people are today among the best tax payers with large turnover, renewed enthusiasm and a kind of unbelievable transformation in their business progress. All were possible with all-round support provided to them from project report to making the process easier for them in every bit of its complexities. Relationships and references were his strong points that he had utilized for everyone’s advantage.

As his reputation grew, CA SS Nayak diversified his services and expanded his practice. He began assisting clients with VAT registration, income tax filings, and industrial land allotments. When he came back to Mangalore; he initiated his career by doing coaching classes. 45 CA aspirants had joined him in the first batch. Most of them are doing CA Profession very successfully. While doing the coaching class it was only morning and evening. Day time he was free. So he gave his second group of CA final exam at Mangalore and cleared CA and took his certificate of practice.
As told earlier, Mangala complex near opposite to Venkatramana temple, Car Street, he opened his CA office on 25th June 1988. After clearing the CA final exam, CA SS Nayak started his practice in Mangalore. Today’s CA aspirants should note this point very carefully. He had faced challenges, with no clients for 15 days to a month. However, he persevered and soon found opportunities in the PMGP scheme, which provided subsidies to traders, service providers, and industries. Going by the road of creating your road is a matter of choice.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, CA SS Nayak’s leadership ensured that the institute’s activities continued uninterrupted. He was instrumental in organizing online meetings and sessions for chartered accountants, which became extremely popular. The institute’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, which were held during this period, were also a huge success, with over 600 registrations and participation from eminent personalities from across the world.

Bengaluru, November 27, 2024: K. Mathai IAS (Retd.) retired KAS officer with an impeccable record of integrity and dignity, has initiated a case in the Karnataka High Court, alleging unfair practices and denial of justice.
Adv. Mathai is a highly respected individual with a strong background in law, having completed his MA and LLM, has been fighting for justice in a case related to a Writ Petition (WP/20940/2024) being heard in Court Hall No 17.
Despite his repeated efforts, Adv. Mathai KAS alleges that he has been denied a fair hearing, and the case has been proceeding in a one-sided manner. He point out that Advocate T. Sheshagiri Rao, representing the opposing party, has obtained a unilateral adjournment for 10 days, depriving him of an opportunity to present his case.
Adv. Mathai’s distinguished career spans over three decades, during which he has served with distinction in various capacities, including as a Commissioner in the Mandya Urban Development Authority (MUDA). His reports on illegalities and scams have led to significant actions, including a chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and a ban on advertisements in Bengaluru.

The complaint, filed by K. Mathai M.A. LLM, KAS (Retd) Advocate, alleges that Advocate Sheshagiri Rao obtained a unilateral adjournment for 10 days, depriving the caveat petitioner/implementing applicant of a fair hearing.
The complaint further alleges that Advocate Sheshagiri Rao, with the support of court staff, was able to obtain reliefs in a manner that was detrimental to the interests of the petitioner.
The complainant has requested the Honourable Chief Justice to initiate an inquiry against Advocate Sheshagiri Rao and the court staff involved, and to take appropriate action to restore the confidence of victims in the courts.
The complaint has been copied to the Karnataka State Bar Council, the High Court Advocate Association, and the Registrar General of the High Court of Karnataka.

The Revival of Udupi Sarees: A Story of Cultural Preservation | Global TV
In the quaint districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, a centuries-old tradition of weaving Udupi Sarees was on the brink of extinction. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Kadike Trust, this traditional craft has been revived, and the Udupi Saree has regained its former glory. Once with more than 5000 families relying on this famous weave of Undevided south canara district came to nearly extinct due to various factors.
Udupi sarees were mainly woven by Shettigars who are also known as padmashalis. When Basel mission introduced new type of loom called Malabar frame loom and started giving training many people from other community were attracted to this field. Later on after onslaught of Power looms and other factors handloom weaving profession started to fade away slowly and nearly came to halt with only few old Weavers remaining.
The Kadike Trust, established in 2018, by few likeminded friends under the guidance of Mamatha Rai a former computer science Lecturer , aimed to nurture eco-friendly rural livelihood practices and to document indigenous knowledge. Their first project, the Udupi Saree Revival, focused on collecting information about the weavers, their techniques, and the history behind this traditional craft.
The revival of Udupi Sarees was made possible by the tireless efforts of a dedicated team. The trust’s team, comprising of people from different walks of life, joined together to do their bit in this dire situation of climate emergency. Trust started by collecting authentic hands on information about Udupi saree weaving in twin districts , which was not available.
And it was found out that only 42 aged weavers were remaining in the field , when talked they had lost all the hopes this beautiful heritage continuing for long. Trust worked closely with weavers and weaver societies and started multifanged efforts to revive this sustainable rural livelyhood opportunity which suited to Trusts objective.
With exact figures in hand Trust started its work by marketing the Udupi sarees through all platforms including online. Trustees participated themselves in events , and selling sarees by roadside in farmers market. Trust requested weavers societies to raise the Price of sarees which was selling at very low price, compared to other genuine handloom sarees , trust assured them steady marketing. Whatsapp, facebook, twitter and Instagram were used extensively to reintroduce this beautiful product to younger generation.
Proper branding was done with attractive logo and label with weavers photo and other details created by famous artist and designer with this Trust started a campaign as ‘ know your weaver ‘ which gave tremendous boost to weavers self respect and dignity, and it atracted youngsters to the profession.
Trust started honouring weavers with awards which gave boost to their low morale. Along with these work Trust started giving trainings to interested persons , coerced experienced weavers who had left profession to come back. There were only six 80 count weavers in two districts when trust started revival projects. Trust coerced many weavers to come back and in the beginning trust started giving training with its own fund later NABARD joined hands together so trust trained twenty youngsters and othet 15 came back to profession.
Trust intervened with designs and weaves to give better appeal to the product in turn the Sarees could attract youg generation, with many youngsters proudly draped Udupi sarees and sent their photos to publish in Udupi Saree Revival pages on social media.Trust liasoned with GI office to get long pending User Authorisation to all weavers societies for using GI tag.
This constant work attracted media attention.
Trust starts natural dying in Udupi saree for the first time in the history of Udupi saree weaving. These untiring work brought many accolades to the revival work, founder president Mamatha Rai was honoured with Change Maker award by Deccan Herald National daily for Udupi Saree Revival work.
NABAARD H O honoured trust as one of the best NGO working in handloom sector in national level. Mamies School house, Canada Selected Mamatha Rai for a prestigious Scholarship on natural dying. Other than this, trut supported weavers during the time of crisis like during Pandemic, natural calamity , health issues and other necessities.
The Udupi Saree, with its unique characteristics, such as the “loom sizing” technique, the use of eco friendly dyes, and the intricate designs, is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region. The revival of this traditional craft is a shining example of how dedication and hard work can help preserve our cultural heritage for future generations.

Empowering Farmers through Collective Action
In a bid to revolutionize the agricultural sector, the Kisan Service Society (KSS) recently organized a three-day national convention at the CSI Retreat Centre in Kanyakumari. The event brought together farmers and agricultural experts from across the country to discuss innovative strategies for sustainable farming practices.
One of the key issues highlighted during the convention was the problem of fragmented agricultural holdings, which hinders the efficiency and profitability of farming in Kerala. To address this challenge, the KSS emphasized the importance of collective action among farmers.
“By forming groups and working together, farmers can overcome the limitations of small landholdings and achieve economies of scale,” said Jose Thayil, Chairman of KSS. “This approach will also enable farmers to negotiate better prices for their produce and access government schemes and subsidies more effectively.”
The convention also focused on the theme of “Carbon Neutral Farming,” with experts discussing ways to reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural practices. S. Suresh, General Secretary of KSS, emphasized the need for farmers to adopt eco-friendly methods to mitigate the impact of climate change.
The KSS has been working tirelessly to empower farmers and promote sustainable agriculture practices. With its presence in over 150 panchayats across Kerala and expansion plans in other states, the organization is poised to make a significant impact on the agricultural sector.

INTACH Mangaluru Chapter and Art Kanara Trust Present a Fascinating Talk on the Making of Kadambari
Mangaluru, November 27, 2024: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Mangaluru Chapter, in association with Art Kanara Trust, is proud to present a captivating talk by Madhusudan Kumar, a renowned artist, producer, and musician.
