Mr. Sanjeeva Shettigar, a highly skilled Udupi Saree Weaver from Talipady Weavers Society has been honored with a State-level award, securing the second place, for his exceptional expertise in cotton saree weaving.

Mr. Shettigar stands out as one of the only ten weavers proficient in weaving 80 count Udupi Sarees across two districts. His mastery lies in meticulously crafting intricate buttas by hand in the traditional 80 count Udupi Saree. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the first to weave a natural dyed 80 count Udupi Saree in the history of Udupi Saree weaving. Moreover, he embraced innovation by reintroducing the ikat design in Udupi sarees, a technique that had been dormant for two decades. This resurgence was made possible with the support of ikat Designer Shree Gopinath Shettigar and the efforts of Kadike Trust at Talipady.

Mr. Shettigar’s talents extend beyond the loom, encompassing various pre-loom works associated with weaving. His ability to skillfully join two warps using only one hand is a truly unique and captivating skill to witness. Notably, he is a cheerful and approachable individual, always willing to pass on his remarkable skills to aspiring young weavers.
