New Waves 2023 was an effort taken up by the school to give students an experience beyond their textbooks. To give them the opportunity to understand and appreciate the versatility of knowledge.
With the availability of proficient people, the programme was inaugurated on 4 April 2023 by Dr.Lakshmikantha H, Environment Officer, State Pollution Control Board, Udupi . He addressed the students on Environment : Awareness and Action. He urged them to observe simplicity as the mantra for controlling pollution of every kind.

In the first session students got an opportunity to associate themselves with Mrs.Indira S, a Wildlife enthusiast. Students were taken around the campus to identify birds with their cry. Students were told the criteria involved in making data entry on birds and sources to be referred to identify aves.Students are also involved in minor projects on birds.
The post lunch session involved dealing with ‘Wonderful world of microbes”. Faculty from Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research headed by Dr Gunimala Chakraborthy displayed various bacteria, fungi and fish larvae under microscope. Students were briefed on the procedure of detecting the role of antibiotics on bacteria and various research activities taking on zebrafish and Drosophila. Concept of biotechnology and its application were also elaborated.
The second day’s morning session was taken over by Dr.Satyajit K T, Associate Prof. Dept. of Physics NMAMIT, Nitte. The session drove around connecting Geography with Geometry as inseparable streams. Activities involved depicted their integral relationship and helped students understand geometry as a part and parcel life.
The post lunch session of the day was dealt with Resolving Local Problems using Geotagging greenery by Mrs. Smitha Hegde,Deputy Director,NUCSER, Paneer.
Students were told about the need for study on carbon sequestration and carbon neutrality.They were involved in spotting, identification,mapping and geotagging of various trees in the campus and imaging.
The forenoon session on 6th April was on ‘Remote Sensing with Hands – On Training’ , its applications introduced by Dr. Bhojaraja B E, Associate Professor, Dept. of Civil Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte. Students were told about satellites used for the purpose of remote sensing, mechanism of remote sensing and its scope. Students were to use the features available in Google Earth Pro for mapping,locating, tagging to find area and timeline.
Afternoon session was dealt by Dr. K Ganeshraj, Former Director, ISRO on ‘Moon – Origin and Geology’. Constitution of moon, its terrain, various missions, experiments conducted on moon soil for growing plants and Prospect of human invasion on moon.
Three days camp was brought to its closure by Dr. Sathish Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University. Dr. G Srinikethan, Director, R & D (Technical) Nitte Deemed to be University, Dr. Satyajith K T, Associate Prof. Dept. of Physics, Dr. Bhojaraja B E Associate Prof. Dept. of Civil Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte, Dr. Ganeshraj, Former Director,ISRO were present during the occasion. The Vice Chancellor congratulated the school for organising a meaningful Summer Camp. Dr. G Srinikethan assured to help any study taken up by the students of the school.The feedback on the summer camp was reflected as a smile on participant’s face.
