Inauguration of Media Buzz 2020

The Alva’s Media Buzz 2020 was inaugurated by Narottam Mishra, Director General (Investigation), UP & Uttarakhand, Income Tax Department, Government of India at Kuvempu Hall, Alva’s College, Vidyagiri today.
An International Conference on Media & Climate Action has also been organised as a part of the two-day media fest which is to be concluded on 29 February. Various publications and media projects created by the students of UG and PG Journalism was also released. Danti, a documentary produced by Alva’s Multimedia; a song by Manjunath of UG 3rd year, a journal Vrukshaswara, Alva’s Vision, Alva’s Madhyama and a promo launch script Alva’s Siri Abhimanada Gari was released. Niranjan Kadlaru, alumni of AEF and successful NET candidate was also felicitated.

In the inauguration program, Mr Narottam highlighted the impact of media on society and the tremendous role it has in creating awareness of the environmental issues for the future generations. He said that visual media should take up specific rules in media that concerns the people and also cover more about the positive aspects in the society.
He said that nature is available for everybody and that there should be a limit to the exploitation taking place in the name of development. If the exploitation is left unchecked, incidents such as the floods in Kerala and Uttarakhand in the past years can become frequent.
“There should be optimal balance between the exploitation and use of nature for sustainable development”, he added.

Dr P.G Diwakar, Scientist and Director, Earth Observation Applications & Disaster Management Program, IRSO, Bengaluru addressed on the contribution of space programmes in the study and regulation of climate change.
He highlighted the various aspects of space exploration, observation and technology and its influence in studying climate change. He said that everyone should understand the changes occurring in the system synergy between the Earth’s system. He also spoke on the various environmental problems and projects in the country.

He also urged that the youths and professionals can use the data monitored by such space programmes for modelling and finding solutions to deal with the climate change global crisis.
Chief Guest, Mr Kishore Alva, President and Executive Director, Udupi Power Corporatio Limited spoke about the degrading conditions of the lakes in and around Bengalaru.
Mr Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee, AEF presided over as the president of the function said that we should make use of what we have learned to help the environment and society.
The programme was also attended by Thomas Scaria, Director, Ecolink Institute; Dr Kurian, Principal, Alva’s College; AO Balakrishna Shetty, Srinivasa Pejathaya, HOD, PG Journalism, Humanities Dean Mrs Sandhya KS, Mrs Reshma, HOD, UG Journalism and students from Alva’s UG and PG Journalism and various colleges.
A technical session (paper presentation) was also held as a part of the Media Buzz 2020. Other events included Photography, Creative Writing, Quiz (prelims), Comic Strip, Mad Ad, Street Play and Surprise Event. A total of 20 colleges from various parts of the state with participated in the media fest.
