MCC Bank celebrates Founder’s Day

The Founders Day of The MCC Bank Ltd, one of the premiere Urban Co-op Banks of coastal Karnataka was celebrated at the Administrative Office Campus of the Bank on May 7, 2023 to coincide with the completion of 111 years of its dedicated service to the society.

Rev. Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, celebrated the Holy Mass on this occasion. He explained the significance of the day, i.e., 111th Founders Day. He recalled the noble work of starting the great Institution for the benefit of Society by the Visionary founder PFX Saldanha. He appreciated the good work done by the Bank to the Society for the last 111 years. He called upon the Management and the staff to be the visionaries and work with sincerity for the development of the Bank. He thanked the Almighty God for His grace on the MCC Bank during the last 111 years.

After the Mass, stage program was arranged. Mr Anil Lobo chairman of the Bank was presided over the program. Mr Vincent Cutinha, Managing Director of Provit Food Products, Mangalore, the General Manager Sunil Menezes and the Directors were on the dais.
Mr Anil Lobo, in his introductory address, welcomed the dignitaries, guests, invitees and the staff. He said that the present Board which took over the reins of the Bank in 2018 had plans of honouring PFX Saldanha, the visionary founder of this great institution and started celebrating the Founder’s Day since 2022, so that the great deeds of the visionary founder should always remain in the minds of the Directors, members and staff. The Bank has conducted several programs during the last year, namely, customer meet, women’s day, post centenary decennial celebration, NRI meet, etc., which has helped in creating a goodwill among the customers and shareholders of the bank. He said that the Bank has remained as a strong Financial Institution responsive to the needs of the Society and earning the trust of the customers, shareholders of the Bank which is evident in its performance for the last 5 years.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Vincent Cutinha remembered the Visionary leader PFX Saldanha who started the institution for the benefit of the community. He appreciated the progress made by the Bank over the years and expressed his joy that the Bank is extending its area of operation from two districts to 7 districts. He has shared his experience with the audience. He asked the Management and staff members to work together for the development of the Bank and wished good luck in its future endeavours.

Program was inaugurated by cutting the Founders cake by the guests on the dais. Floral tribute was paid to the founder’s portrait. Those who are celebrating their birthdays in May were felicitated by cutting the Birthday cake.

ICRAC-2023, International Conference on Recent Trends in Advanced Computing was organized by St Joseph’s Institute of Information Science, St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru on 2nd-3rd May 2023 at SJU Auditorium. This conference provided a platform for researchers,students, academicians and industrialist to showcase and discuss their research innovation in a unique way.
ICRAC-2023 was a Two days International conference which was held for the first time at St Joseph’s Universitywhich witnessed 61 research papers and more than hundred researchers with unique ideas. The main Agenda of the Conference was to provide a platform for young researchers to discuss their ideas which will be helpful for the society in solving real life problems.
Dr Lawrence Jenkins was the chief guest. Rev Fr Swebert D’Silva S.J, Pro Chancellor, St Joseph’s University presided over the inaugural ceremony accompanied by Rev Fr Denzil Lobo S.J, Director, SJIIT. Rev Dr Xavier Savarimuthu S.J, Director of Research, St Joseph’s University was the guest of honour. Dr Sivakannan Subramani, the Organizing secretary unveiled the proceedings of the conference. Dr Lawrence Jenkins expressed his views on the advancement of computers and the applications of IT in real world scenario.

The conference had five Key note speeches by eminent speakers – Dr Radhakant Padhi, Dr Lawrence Jenkins, Dr Simone Ludwig, Dr Mohammad Imran and Dr Ruban S followed by paper presentation sessions under the four tracks.

The valedictory ceremony was held on 3rd May 2023 at Big Data Analytics Lab, Dr Srinivas Bhogle was the chief guest who congratulated the participantsand expressed his excitement how AI will revolutionize Education. Rev Fr Denzil Lobo, Director of SJIIT shared his thoughts on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and warned us about the potential threats of AI so the youth will be better prepared for future challenges. Seventh cruise ship of the year, “MV INSIGNIA,” arrives at New Mangalore Port.

“MV INSIGNIA” seventh cruise vessel of the current season, arrived today morning at 0800 hours in the Port. The Marshall Island flagged ship carrying 466 passengers & 399 crew members berthed alongside berth no. 04 in the Port. Sailing from Fujairah & Mumbai Ports, the vessel’s last Port of call was Mormugao Port and after leaving from the Mangalore the ship will sail to Cochin Port.

The overall length of the ship is 180.05 meters with carrying capacity of 30,277 Gross Tonnage & has a draft of 6 meters. The ship is owned & operated by Oceania Cruises, headquartered in Miami which is a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., a diversified cruise operator of leading global cruise brands which include Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

The cruise passengers were given traditional welcome by playing drums while disembarking from the ship. Various arrangements were done for the pleasant experience of the cruise passengers such as; medical screening of passengers, multiple immigrations & customs counters for swift movement, bus & taxis for passengers for touring various locations in & around Mangalore city.

The cruise passengers availed benefits of meditation centre set-up by Department of AYUSH inside the cruise lounge. Clothe & handicraft outlets were also kept open for the tourists. Tourists clicked photos in-front of the selfie stand setup by Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. For entertaining the passengers the Port had arranged a Yakshagana performance in the cruise lounge.

The passengers visited various tourist destinations such as; Achal Cashew Factory, Kudroli Gokarmatheshwara Temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, Local market, Pilikula Artisan village, Thousand Pillars Basadi and Soans Farm. Souvenirs were given to the cruise passengers while they were embarking back to their ship, in reminiscence of their visit to Mangalore. The ship sailed at 1630HRS to its next destination to Cochin Port.

Geoviya George (PT), Principal Incharge of Physiotherapy College, Ms. Krithika, Principal Incharge of Allied Health Sciences, Ms. Ramiza, Principal Incharge of Paramedical Sciences. The annual report of the colleges was read by the concerned Principal and Principal Incharges of the colleges.

The Chief Guest of the function Dr. N. Ramakrishna Reddy, Registrar (Evaluation), Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru shared his wisdom on the importance of healthcare professionals and the enormous contribution given by Dr. U.T. Ifthikar Ali for the development of the profession. This day was marked by awarding of certificates to the graduating students of MSc Nursing, BSc Nursing, Post Basic BSc Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences. Students of Paramedical Sciences were awarded diplomas certificates. On this day, the students were recognised for their academic and extracurricular performances. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Siji Augustine, Associate Professor, Indira Nursing College. The graduation day was concluded with the national anthem and photo session.
