കോമളനായ ആ ബാലൻ്റെ കഥ ആൽകെമിസ്റ്റിൽ പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നത് എന്നെ വല്ലാതെ ആകർഷിച്ചു. വനദേവതമാർ ആ ബാലനെ ദൂരെ നിന്ന് നോക്കി നിൽക്കാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷെ അവൻ എപ്പോഴും ആ തടാകത്തിൻ്റെ അരികിലിരുന്ന് അതിലേക്ക് നോക്കി വിസ്മയം പൂണ്ടിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു പതിവ്.

ഇത്രയേറെ ആ തടാകത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കാൻ എന്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് വനദേവതമാർക്ക് മനസ്സിലായില്ലെങ്കിലും അവൻ്റെ ശ്രദ്ധ തിരിക്കാൻ അവർക്ക് മനസ്സുവന്നില്ല. അവനറിയാതെ അവനെ നോക്കി നിൽക്കുക അവർക്കും ഒരു ഹരമായിരുന്നിരിക്കണം. അത്രമേൽ കോമളനായിരുന്നു ആ ബാലൻ.

അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെ തടാകത്തിൽ നോക്കിയിരുന്ന ബാലൻ തന്നെത്തന്നെ മറന്ന് വിസ്മയഭരിതനായിരിക്കെ അതെ തടാകത്തിലേക്ക് വീഴുകയും മരണപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു. അത്രമേൽ ആഴമുള്ളതായിരുന്നു തടാകം അവനിൽ തീർത്ത വിസ്മയം.

ബാലൻ്റെ മരണം വനദേവതമാരെ ഏറെ ദുഃഖത്തിൽ ആഴ്ത്തി. അവർക്ക് കുറെയധികം ദിവസത്തേയ്ക്ക് പ്രജ്ഞ തന്നെ നഷ്ടമായി. ഏറെ ദിവസങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷം തങ്ങളുടെ മാനസികനില വീണ്ടെടുത്ത ദേവതമാർ തടാകത്തിനരുകിൽ എത്തി. ദൂരെ നിന്നും കോമളനായ ബാലനെ കണ്ടുനിന്നിരുന്ന ഞങ്ങൾ ഇത്രയേറെ വിസ്മയഭരിതരായെങ്കിൽ അവനെ വളരെ അടുത്ത് കാണാൻ ദിവസവും ഭാഗ്യം ചെയ്ത തടാകം എത്രമേൽ അവൻ്റെ സൗന്ദര്യം ആസ്വദിച്ചിരിക്കില്ല. അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ തടാകത്തിൻ്റെ ദുഃഖം എത്രത്തോളമായിരിക്കും?

തടാകത്തിനരുകിലെത്തിയ വനദേവതമാരുടെ ചിന്തകളെ ശരിവക്കുന്നതായിരുന്നു തടാകത്തിൻ്റെ അവസ്ഥ. തെളിനീർ നിറഞ്ഞു തുളുമ്പി നിന്നിരുന്ന ആ തടാകം കരഞ്ഞു കരഞ്ഞു ഉപ്പുതടാകമായിരിക്കുന്നു. നീ കരഞ്ഞുപോയതിൽ അത്ഭുതമില്ല. കോമളനായ ആ ബാലനെ ഏറെ അടുത്തുനിന്ന് കാണാൻ ഭാഗ്യം ലഭിച്ചത് നിനക്ക് മാത്രമാണല്ലോ; വനദേവതമാരിൽ ഒരാൾ പറഞ്ഞു.

അത്രമേൽ സുന്ദരനായിരുന്നോ അവൻ? തടാകം ചോദിച്ചു. ആ ചോദ്യം അവരെ ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിലാക്കി. ഇതെന്താ ഈ തടാകം ഇങ്ങനെ ചോദിക്കുന്നത്. തങ്ങളേക്കാൾ എത്രയധികം അടുത്തുനിന്നാണ് തടാകം ബാലൻ്റെ സൗന്ദര്യം ആസ്വദിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്? അവർ അക്കാര്യം തടാകത്തോട് പറയുകയും ചെയ്തു.

തടാകത്തിൻ്റെ കണ്ണ് നിറഞ്ഞു. അടുത്ത നിമിഷം തടാകം കരയുമെന്നും ആ കരച്ചിൽ അണപൊട്ടിയൊഴുകുമെന്നും വനദേവതമാർക്ക് മനസ്സിലായി.

പെട്ടെന്ന് സമനില വീണ്ടെടുത്ത തടാകം അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാൻ ഒരിക്കലും അവൻ്റെ സൗന്ദര്യം ആസ്വദിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. എൻ്റെയരുകിൽ ഏറെ നേരം വന്നിരിക്കാറുള്ള അവൻ്റെ കണ്ണുകളിൽ തെളിയുന്ന എൻ്റെ പ്രതിഫലനമാണ് ഞാൻ എപ്പോഴും ആസ്വദിച്ചിരുന്നത്. നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ആ മനോഹര കാഴ്ചയാണ് എന്നെ തീരാ ദുഃഖത്തിൽ ആഴ്ത്തിയത്. എത്ര മനോഹരമായ ഒരു കഥയാണിത്. ഇത് കഥയല്ല; വലിയൊരു കാര്യം നമുക്കിവിടെ പഠിക്കാനുണ്ട്.

മറ്റുള്ളവരിൽ തന്നെത്തന്നെ കണ്ടെത്തിയ ഒരു ബാലൻ്റെ കഥ പറയുന്നതിനാണ് ആൽക്കമിസ്ട് വായിച്ച കോമളനായ ആ ബാലൻ്റെ കഥ ഇവിടെ വിവരിച്ചത്.

ബാലൻ ജനിച്ചത് എൻ ആർ പുരത്താണ്. പിന്നീട് പഠനം ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോഴേക്കും നാട്ടിലേക്ക് പറിച്ചുനടപ്പെട്ടു. അവിടെ നന്നായി പഠിച്ചുവരുമ്പോൾ ഇതാ വീണ്ടും കർണാടകത്തിലെ നെല്ലിയാടിയിലേക്കൊരു പറിച്ചുനടൽ. കന്നഡ ഭാഷ ഒരു ബാലികേറാമലയായി. എല്ലാ വിഷയങ്ങളെയും അത് വല്ലാതെ ബാധിച്ചു. ആ വർഷം ആദ്യമായി സ്‌കൂളിൽ പരാജയം രുചിച്ചു. പള്ളി ആയിരുന്നു ആകെ ഒരു ആശ്വസം. മലയാളം വായിക്കാനറിയുന്നത് പള്ളിയിൽ വലിയ കാര്യമായി. അൾത്താര ബാലനാകാൻ അത് സഹായിച്ചു.

ചടുലമായ പെരുമാറ്റവും സ്പുടമായ വായനയും അവനെ എല്ലാവർക്കും പ്രിയങ്കരനാക്കി. പള്ളിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കാര്യങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം അവൻ മികവ് പുലർത്തി. പഠനം പക്ഷെ ഒരു കീറാമുട്ടിയായി തുടർന്നു. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെയാണ് അത് സംഭവിച്ചത്. ടീച്ചർ അച്ചാച്ചനെ സ്‌കൂളിലേക്ക് വിളിച്ചു വരുത്തി. തൻ്റെ പഠനം സംബന്ധിച്ച കാര്യങ്ങൾ പറയാനാണെന്ന് അവൻ കരുതി. ഇന്ന് വൈകീട്ട് അച്ചാച്ചൻ വീട്ടിൽ വരുമ്പോൾ എന്ത് സംഭവിക്കുമെന്ന് അവൻ ആശങ്കപ്പെട്ടു.

പെട്ടെന്ന് തോന്നിയ ഒരു ബുദ്ധിയിൽ അവൻ വീടുവിട്ടിറങ്ങി. കയ്യിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത് ഇരുപത് രൂപ. മംഗലാപുരത്തു അടുത്ത ഒരു മാസം. ആളുകളുമായി പെട്ടെന്ന് ഇണങ്ങി ചേരുന്ന അവൻ്റെ പ്രകൃതം അവന് സഹായമായി. പക്ഷെ പുതിയൊരു പ്രശ്നം അവനെ അസ്വസ്ഥപ്പെടുത്തി. അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പത്രങ്ങളിൽ വന്ന വാർത്തകൾ ആയിരുന്നു.

അത്. കാണ്മാനില്ല എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടിൽ വന്ന വാർത്തകൾ അവൻ പലവട്ടം കണ്ടു. ഒരു ദിവസം തൻ്റെ ബന്ധുവിനെ പോയി കണ്ട് അവൻ തൻ്റെ ഒളിവിലെ ജീവിതത്തിന് തിരശീലയിട്ടു. വർഷങ്ങൾ എത്രയോ കഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. നാട്ടിലും വീട്ടിലും തിരിച്ചെത്തിയ ആ രാത്രി അവൻ്റെ മനസ്സിൽ നിന്നും ഒരിക്കലും മാഞ്ഞുപോയില്ല, മായുകയുമില്ല. ഒരു നാട് മുഴുവൻ അവനെ കാത്തിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു ആ രാത്രി നേരത്തും. ഇത്രമേൽ എന്നെ അവർ സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്ന് അവന് വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞതേയില്ല. അത് അവന് വലിയൊരു വിസ്മയമായി. തന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവർക്ക്‌ വേണ്ടിയായി പിന്നീടുള്ള അവൻ്റെ ജീവിതം. പിന്നീട് പഠനത്തിലും പെരുമാറ്റത്തിലും വലിയ മികവ് പുലർത്തി. തോറ്റ് തുന്നം പാടിയിരുന്ന കണക്കിന് അൻപതിൽ അൻപത് മാർക്കും നേടി. പിന്നീടുള്ള ജീവിതം മുഴുവൻ വലിയൊരു ലക്‌ഷ്യം മുന്നിൽ കണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

Fondly remembered as the Angel Baba for his saintly character and selfless service, the event paid tribute to his visionary leadership and compassionate ministry among the poor and needy.

Memorial Lecture Honors Visionary Founder, Celebrates Legacy of Compassion and Innovation

The keynote lecture, delivered by Mr. Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi, was the highlight of the event.

Addressing an audience comprising dignitaries, faculty, students, and alumni, Mr. Gandhi shared an inspiring and thought-provoking address focusing on the values upheld by both Mahatma Gandhi and His Holiness. Emphasizing the need for compassion-driven technology and skill-based education, Mr. Gandhi repeated the importance of combining intellectual growth with practical abilities to empower communities, particularly in rural areas.

He also stressed the importance of restoring hands-on learning in education, suggesting that engineering students spend significant time in workshops to develop essential hand-eye coordination, physical skills, and critical problem-solving abilities. He fondly recalled his schooling years, where technical education included practical workshops that equipped students with skills to create and innovate. He underscored that such practices are vital for fostering self-reliance and reducing dependency.

The event was presided over by M.S. Yohanan Ramban, whose words of wisdom enriched the gathering and reflected on the spiritual and missionary leadership of His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews II. The college director, Dr. Oommen Mammen, delivered an inspiring welcome address, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and holistic student development.

The program also featured contributions from Dr. V.I. George, Principal of MBCCET, whose missionary leadership has played a major role in advancing the college’s academic standards, and other dignitaries, including Rev. Fr.
