Sea Equals MC² : A Revolutionary Initiative for Sustainable Fisheries Management as explained by Prof. Dr. Shivkumar Magada, Former Dean, Fisheries College, Mangalore.

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

The Arabian Sea, a lifeline for millions, is a vast expanse of water and a dynamic ecosystem that sustains livelihoods, supports biodiversity, and serves as a cultural and economic backbone for coastal communities. Recognizing the urgent need to conserve this vital resource, a group of fisheries professionals and enthusiasts from Mangalore and across India have launched an innovative initiative, aptly named “Sea Equals MC².”

This is a visionary movement that combines cutting-edge science, community participation, and sustainable practices to protect the Arabian Sea while ensuring economic opportunities for those dependent on it. The goals and ground-breaking strategies at “Sea Equals MC²” are a game-changer in marine conservation.

The Challenges of Managing the Arabian Sea

The Arabian Sea spans 3.28 million square kilometres, bordered by seven countries, including India, and has supported over 200 million tons of fish catch in the past 50–60 years. However, overfishing, pollution, and fragmented governance now threaten this ecosystem.

Fisheries management in India is divided among five coastal states, each enforcing its own laws, resulting in inefficiencies and conflicts. Migratory fish stocks crossing state and national boundaries are particularly vulnerable, and fishermen often face penalties due to unclear maritime borders, despite advanced GPS technology. Marine fish catch in India has stagnated at 3.7–3.9 million tons over the past decade, emphasizing the need for unified, evidence-based management strategies across borders.

Sea Equals MC²: A Unified Approach to Fisheries Management

“Sea Equals MC²” addresses these challenges by fostering international collaboration. The initiative is aimed to engage scientists and stakeholders from bordering countries like Iran, Yemen, Oman, Somalia, the Maldives, Pakistan, and India to create a shared platform for harmonizing fisheries management strategies. By studying and understanding fish stocks and cultivating a sense of shared responsibility, the initiative seeks to ensure sustainable practices.

Key Strategies for Sustainability

  • Stock Assessment Programs

Comprehensive stock assessments along India’s west coast aim to establish a scientific baseline for sustainable fishing practices.

  • Harmonizing Fisheries Laws

Standardized regulations, such as uniform mesh sizes and extended fishing ban periods, are advocated to ensure consistent and sustainable practices.

  • Banning Destructive Fishing Methods

Controversial techniques like bull trolling and light fishing are under review, with evidence-based decisions guiding their regulation.

  • Building Collaborative Frameworks

The initiative coordinates with international stakeholders to establish management societies across countries bordering the Arabian Sea, respecting sovereignty while promoting collective action.

Crowd funding for Research and Innovation

Sea Equals MC² plans to construct a state-of-the-art research vessel through crowd funding. This floating laboratory will facilitate stock assessments, pollution monitoring, and on-board processing while fostering collaborations with colleges and research institutions.

The Concept Behind Sea Equals MC²

The name “Sea Equals MC²” symbolizes the initiative’s fusion of innovation and science. Standing for “Arabian Sea Fisheries Management Coordination Committee,” the acronym reflects a collaborative, multifaceted approach to marine conservation.

Objectives and Vision

Sea Equals MC² aims to:

  • Conserve and Protect the Arabian Sea’s ecological health.
  • Empower Coastal Communities through sustainable livelihoods and resource-sharing models.
  • Mitigate Pollution via water quality analysis and education.
  • Foster Awareness and Collaboration through a professional network for knowledge sharing.
  • Innovative Features
  • Participatory and Revenue-Based Model
  • Blending non-profit and revenue-generating mechanisms ensures transparency and sustainability.

Crowd funding for a Research Vessel

The vessel, to be built at Cochin Shipyard, Udupi will support stock assessments, pollution monitoring, and research collaborations.

Automated Revenue Distribution

A transparent system allocates earnings to predefined categories, ensuring accountability.

Professional Network

Professionals contribute expertise in areas such as training, media, and consultancy, creating a collaborative ecosystem.

Activities and Impact

Sea Equals MC² envisions initiatives like stock assessments, alternative livelihood training, pollution management, and scientific research. Collaborative frameworks encourage inclusivity, allowing individuals and institutions to propose aligned projects.

A Vision for the Future

Sea Equals MC² seeks to:

  • Protect the Arabian Sea’s biodiversity.
  • Empower coastal communities with sustainable opportunities.
  • Establish the Arabian Sea as a global benchmark for marine conservation.

Join the Movement

Sea Equals MC² invites fishermen, scientists, and enthusiasts to unite in conserving this vital ecosystem. With its innovative approach, the initiative is sure about making sustainability for celebrating and protecting the Arabian Sea for future generations.

  • Bridging is a Media Action | 4 Questions Campaign

The word “bridge” evokes images of steel beams or concrete roads connecting over rivers. But what if we take it not as a static noun, but as a living, breathing verb? To “bridge” means to act, to connect, and to establish friendships. The world progress when people get connected. Bridging can create opportunities, transform lives and reshape societies. Create millions of opportunities; All by asking people about their success stories. Make it a habit to connect with people through the art of Appreciative Inquiry (AI).

You can do it just by asking four questions to the successful people:

  1. What have been the major turning points in your life?
  2. Can you share some of your most notable success stories?
  3. What are the challenges you have overcome, and how did you do them?
  4. What are the valuable lessons from your life?

These Questions will result in great Stories that can do wonders. We can connect people through stories in various formats including book publishing, which is a trend today.

There is a service behind this act of asking Positive Questions (PQ). Gap between rich and the poor can disappear when we connect them with success stories and subsequent actions. There is an opportunity to innovate, empathize, and empower. Bridging the gap is a mission. It starts with each of us. Those who realize that they are the architects of these bridges becomes the front runners.

Can you ask the above 4 Questions to 4 People in a Week? You can be a part in the Media Mission and experience the Power of Bridging | Resident Editors to Contributors | Global TV

Miracles happen when people are connected. Be a Bridge that Connect People on an ongoing basis. To bridge is to believe that the world’s resources; both material and human, are not scarce, but in abundance. Bridging enriches everyone by unlocking possibilities, nurturing innovation, and fostering collective growth.

Think of a young girl in an underserved community. She dreams of becoming a doctor or a technocrat or a social worker, but the odds are stacked against her. A scholarship can be the bridge that turns her dreams into reality. The ripple effect extends far beyond her life to her family, her community, and even future generations feel its impact. Those who had received will certainly give back.

Every step toward bridging, no matter how small, has the potential to inspire a ripple effect, creating a wave of change that touches countless lives. Imagine a world where wealth isn’t hoarded but shared, where knowledge isn’t guarded but spread, and where opportunities aren’t the privilege of the few but the birth right of all. This is a possibility that lies within our collective reach. The only requirement is to ask the 4 Questions to bridge the divides.

Bridging Starts with Empathy

At the heart of bridging lies empathy. It is the ability to see the world through someone else’s eyes and to act with compassion. Empathy transforms charity into partnership, where both the giver and receiver grow together. It recognizes that helping others isn’t a sacrifice; it’s an investment in our shared humanity.

For the wealthy, bridging can mean mentoring, funding, or creating programs that enable those less fortunate to achieve their dreams. For the poor, bridging offers a pathway to self-reliance, dignity, and the opportunity to contribute back to society. It is in these shared journeys that true progress is made.

Small Actions, Big Impacts

Bridging isn’t about monumental gestures; it’s about the cumulative power of small actions. It’s about buying from local artisans to support their livelihoods. It’s about sponsoring a child’s education to give them a brighter future. It’s about starting conversations that break down stereotypes and foster understanding.

Take Global TV platform for storytelling and allow collaboration and collective action. Make micro models by doing what is possible for you. Amplify the voices of those working tirelessly to bridge gaps in their communities. Each story shared becomes a spark, igniting others to take action and join the movement.

The Bridge is You

Each of us is a bridge, capable of connecting lives and transforming futures. Whether it’s a financial contribution, a mentoring relationship, or simply an act of kindness, every effort counts. The question is not whether you can bridge the gap, but how you will choose to do so. The time to bridge is now.

Together, we can reimagine a world with pathways of possibility. By turning the noun “bridge” into the verb “bridging,” we unleash the full potential of human connection and create a future where everyone has the chance to thrive. Step forward. Be the bridge. Let’s build a foundation for lasting change.

“Payann” has created history as the second Konkani film to run for 100 days after last year’s “Osmitay.” | Global TV

“Payann” Konkani movie celebrating its 100th show.

A hit from the day of its release, the Konkani film “Payann”, produced by yodeling King Melvin Peris and Neeta Peris under the banner “Sangeet Ghar”, is entering its 100th day. Due to the limited market, making a movie in Konkani and delivering it to the scattered Konkani people is a challenging task. However, the team of “Payann” has worked tirelessly to ensure that the film achieves a 100-day run.

This milestone is a record for the Mangalorean Konkani-speaking community, as it is rare for a movie with a limited market to sustain such a long theatrical release.

“Payann” has created history as the second Konkani film to run for 100 days after last year’s “Osmitay.”

The movie narrates the life story of a musician who discovers that true harmony in life requires more than mastery of the art of music. The protagonist navigates the challenges of the music industry, confronting personal demons and unpredictable webs of deceit and craft. Driven by his desire to break the mold in the music industry and leave a legacy behind, “Payann” is a compelling tale of resilience and ambition.

The 100th-day celebration held on 29th December at 4:00 PM at Bharat Cinema in Bijai. Member of the Legislative Council, Mr. Ivan D’Souza, will be the chief guest for this event. Rector of St. Aloysius Educational Institutions, Rev. Fr. Melwin Joseph Pinto, and non-resident businessman Mr. James D’Souza from Dubai will be the guests of honor.

The creative team behind “Payann” includes Director Joel Pereira, who also wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogues. Roshan D’Souza Angelore served as the music director. Brian Sequeira, a young talent from Puttur, played the lead role, supported by heroines Jasmine D’Souza, Kate Pereira, and Shaina D’Souza. The ensemble cast includes Rainal Sequeira, Leslie Rego, Gerry Rasquinha, Walter Nandalike, Jeevan Vas, Jossey Rego, Alvin Danti, Albert Peris, Arun Noronha, Denver Peris, Denver D’Souza, and Melisha Pinto. Lyrics and music were composed by Melvin Peris, cinematography was handled by V. Ramanjaneya, and the film was edited by Mevin Joel Pinto, Shirthady.

Add SUGAR to Transform Addiction into Productivity; NV Paulose, Chairman Global TV

Five Check points to Check addiction and Transform them into Productive Outcomes | Global TV

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

Mobile Addiction or any other addiction can be a draining force that can make the life of individuals and families miserable and devastating. 5 Check points will help you to address them from the very beginning. These are presented in an acronym named SUGAR. These five check points will help individuals to reach their full potential. These five essential elements can transform addiction into productivity. Below are these five elements represented by the acronym SUGAR!

# S – Significance

What is the significance of what I am doing? Is it important for me or anyone connected to me, or even anyone else in genuine terms? The purpose and outcomes of our actions are critical. If an activity holds no significance, neither to you nor to anyone else, it may be an indicator that it’s time to move on.

Recognize the harm caused by addictive behaviours and replace them with actions that contribute to a positive cause. Making meaningful choices helps individuals to break free from the grip of addiction and instead channel their energy into beneficial activities.

# U – Urgency

What is the urgency of what I am doing? Is it so urgent that it cannot be ignored or postponed? Assessing the urgency of tasks and activities can help individuals avoid distractions and focus on what truly matters. If something is not urgent, it is easier to let go of it. Establishing accountability, tracking progress, and creating a sense of urgency for positive tasks can gradually replace addictive behaviours and direct attention to actions that yield long-term benefits.

# G – Goals

Am I aligning my actions with my life’s goals? Setting clear and achievable goals is an essential strategy for overcoming addiction. Every action should be checked against these goals. Breaking larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks allows individuals to stay focused and motivated. This structured approach helps prevent distractions and ensures that energy is directed toward productivity, transforming addictive tendencies into a drive for success. When progress is regularly checked and reviewed, it reinforces a sense of accomplishment and keeps individuals on track. Additionally, consistently working towards these goals creates a sense of purpose, making it easier to overcome the temptation of addictive behaviours.

# A – Accountability

What accountability measures am I setting for myself? To overcome addiction, it is crucial to establish personal accountability. This can be easily achieved by surrounding yourself with a strong support system. Friends, family, community and possible larger groups will keep you surrounded with positive energy.

Hold yourself accountable by tracking your progress. Set up regular check-ins and controls with someone you trust. These steps make a significant difference in your routines and behaviours. Encourage yourself to stay focused on your goals and provide a structure and motivation needed to keep you going. Accountability transforms you into productive actions and keep you consistent and supported.

# R – Rewarding

How am I rewarding my progress? Rewarding small victories reinforces positive behaviour and keeps motivation high. Acknowledge and celebrate even minor successes. Maintain a momentum and encourage a long-term change.

Rather than seeking instant gratification through addiction, focus on rewarding the completion of productive tasks. These rewards not only boost morale but also reinforce the new habits you’re building, turning the process of overcoming addiction into an opportunity for personal growth and accomplishment.

By incorporating the Five SUGAR elements, you can transform addiction into productivity, unlock your full potential and achieve a more fulfilling life.
