Building Revenue Models will help politicians to lead a value based political Life | Global TV

A political leader can make a meaningful impact in society by shifting from a capital model to a revenue model, using Appreciative Inquiry (AI) principles and the Imagine Chicago model | Global TV

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

A political leader’s decision to shift from a capital model to a revenue model can have far-reaching consequences for society, their party and followers. The capital model often focuses on corruption for accumulating wealth and resources. Those who come into politics even with large capital also may get them drained on one sided spending and eventually forced to get into corrupt practices.

Most of the time we see politicians leave all their professions and revenue models to get into fulltime politics. They slowly and silently get into corrupt practices for their own existence and survival in politics and life. Most of them, as we analyse today’s scenario, prioritizes short-term gains over long-term sustainability.

In contrast, building Revenue Models will help politicians to lead a value based political practice throughout their career and even afterwards. We should give the priority and emphasize in generating revenue through sustainable practices. There are plenty of issues that can be converted into revenue models.

All that we should understand is the fundamental principle that nothing including charity initiatives work without proper revenue models. We can make everything feasible and possible with an open and transparent approach. First of all, can we come out of the attitude of the cat that drinks milk by closing its eyes? The cat is thinking as if no one is seeing it since it has closed its eyes.

People are watching you for several years by now. All of them already have made opinions about you. What we need to do is to prove ourselves for our own values, happiness and satisfaction. Value those who value you and make your plans in concurrence with some of them. Involve few of them in the initiatives. Create an equitable distribution of resources generated from the revenue models.

Making powerful and expansive Revenue Models:

Cooking tasty food items require suitable ingredients and viable environment. In the same way, creating revenue models require appropriate ingredients and viable environment. Selling ice to Eskimos is a tough task. Never do it. Check what works were and take up the most comfortable area to work with.

People, Space, Time and Purpose are the main ingredients for making a revenue model. Purpose make things more clear. Take one of the most challenging issue in the society and see it as a possibility instead of seeing it a problem.

By making this shift, a political leader can foster a more inclusive and resilient system that will make his circle of excellence expanding faster and better. This is an attitudinal shift. Ask suggestions form the people who come to you with a problem. Bring out options and give them choices to address the problem. They are coming to you since they cannot solve it by themselves. Take it an opportunity to apply your skills and time and to convert them into economic results.

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) principles and Imagine Chicago Model:

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) principles offer a powerful framework for facilitating this shift. AI involves identifying and building on existing strengths and positive experiences, rather than solely focusing on problems and deficits. By applying AI principles, a political leader can engage stakeholders in a collaborative process of discovery and innovation, uncovering new opportunities for revenue generation and sustainable growth. This approach can help build trust, foster creativity, and unleash collective potential. Take up things in small scale first.

The Imagine Chicago model provides a compelling example of how AI principles can be applied in practice. Imagine Chicago was a city-wide initiative that brought together citizens, organizations, and government agencies to envision and create a more sustainable, equitable future. By using AI principles to amplify positive possibilities and build on existing strengths, the initiative was able to generate innovative solutions, mobilize community engagement, and create lasting impact. A political leader who adopts a similar approach, combining AI principles with a revenue model, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of citizens and create a more prosperous, resilient society.

Collective writing is more than just a collaborative effort; it’s a dynamic process that fosters creativity, innovation, and growth. Every writer in the forum has a distinct language or style. The richness of Writers’ Syndicate is in the freedom of tone setting and adopting various perspectives that can lead to excitement, creativity, fresh insights, new ideas, and a more nuanced understanding of the world around us. You are giving in bits and bytes for taking it back in abundance. Imagine a book of ten chapters are compiled by ten people who are part of the Writers Syndicate. MRPL Organizes Free Artificial Limb Distribution Camp for Endosulfan Victims | Global TV

Mangaluru: In a remarkable display of compassion and community care, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), in collaboration with the Health and Family Welfare Department and the renowned Jaipur Foot organization, organized a free artificial limb distribution camp for Endosulfan victims across Dakshina Kannada district. The camp, which took place in Belthangady, Puttur, Bantwal, and surrounding areas, brought hope and relief to approximately 77 victims who have long endured the consequences of Endosulfan exposure.

The initiative was executed with meticulous attention to detail, as each artificial limb was custom-made to suit the specific needs of the beneficiaries. Beyond the provision of prosthetics, MRPL extended its support by distributing nutrition kits to further aid the victims in their recovery and overall well-being. This holistic approach underscores MRPL’s steadfast commitment to social responsibility and its enduring dedication to improving the lives of marginalized communities.

Savitha Shetty, a representative of the Endosulfan victims, expressed heartfelt gratitude for MRPL’s consistent efforts, stating, “MRPL has stood by us for years, providing us with much-needed support. This artificial limb distribution camp is yet another example of their unwavering dedication to our well-being. Their empathy and action give us hope for a better future.”

Things offered for free often come with strings attached | It leads us to potentially harmful directions | Global TV

The Hidden Risks of “Free”: Lessons from Coca Cola’s Statement | Global TV

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

Coca Cola once made a surprising statement that its biggest competitor in India was not another beverage company, but water. Their campaign went in alerting people not to drink water from unhealthy sources; they have introduced pricing even for water. Source verification is very important even when things are offered free is the lesson learned here. This is to point fingers to an often-overlooked truth about human behaviour. Our tendency to gravitate toward what appears to be free is NOT so very good. Many things offered free comes with hidden risks.

Things offered for free often come with strings attached. It leads us in unintended and potentially harmful directions. Water, often viewed as free or inexpensive, illustrates this concept well. While it may seem readily available, the source and quality of water are crucial factors that determine its true value. Free or untested water sometimes can carry risks to health and well-being. Doesn’t mean that you should not drink water when it is offered to you on a house visit. That’s not what is meant to communicate here with this communicative article.

What is underscored here is the importance of evaluating what lies beneath the surface. Many things offered for free in life are not as harmless as they seem at the outset. They may carry hidden costs most of the times. Some of them may be set being traps designed to extract greater value from us in other ways.

The Hidden Risks of Free Offerings

The allure of free things often masks risks that can lead to significant consequences. Here are key areas where the dangers of “free” manifest:

Questionable Quality

Free products or services often lack proven reliability or quality. For instance, free drinking water from unknown sources may be contaminated, leading to severe health consequences. Similarly, free goods and services may not be thoroughly tested or safe for use, putting users at risk.

Hidden Agendas

Many free offerings are not genuinely free but come with hidden motives. Companies offering free samples or services often do so to collect personal data, gain influence, or create dependencies that will lead to future profits. What appears to be free may come at the cost of privacy, autonomy, or long-term financial stability.

Exploitation and Manipulation

By giving away something for free, entities can subtly manipulate individuals into bigger commitments. For example, free trials often lead to subscription charges, and free advice or products may serve as a gateway to influencing decisions that benefit the provider disproportionately.

Opportunity Costs

Choosing free options can lead to missed opportunities. For instance, relying on free, untested solutions may prevent one from investing in proven, high-quality alternatives. In the long run, the cost of lost opportunities often outweighs the initial savings.

The Importance of Proven Value

Rather than chasing what is free, we should prioritize what has a proven track record of quality, reliability, and worth. Here are some practical steps to achieve this:

  • Evaluate the Source: Always question the origin and quality of free offerings. Whether its water, food, or digital services, ensure they come from credible sources with a history of reliability.
  • Understand the Motive: Look beyond the surface and ask why something is being offered for free. Recognize the hidden agendas that may be at play.
  • Test and Verify: Avoid adopting free products or services without proper evaluation. Seek feedback, reviews, or certifications that prove their worth.
  • Invest in Quality: When faced with a choice, prioritize proven quality over the illusion of free. An initial investment in something reliable often saves greater costs in the future.
  • Stay Mindful: Be conscious of the long-term implications of free offerings and the potential risks associated with them.

Building Awareness: A Call to Action

The lesson is clear: free is not always safe or beneficial. By adopting a critical mind-set, we can overcome the temptations of free offerings and make choices that align with our values and priorities. This principle extends beyond products and services to encompass relationships, decisions, and life choices.

Rather than running behind the glitter of “free,” let us focus on what truly holds value. Let us choose from the proven, reliable, and beneficial choices in the long run. This approach not only protects us from hidden risks but also helps build a more conscious, equitable, and sustainable future.

Remember, the allure of “free” often hides its true cost. By staying informed and intentional, we can avoid falling into traps and ensure that our decisions lead us in the right direction.

Prof. Dr. PL Dharma Visionary Academician and the 10th Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University in Conversation with NV Paulose Chairman of Global TV

Professor Dr. P. L. Dharma: A Journey of Hard Times; and the Wisdom, and Inspiration Inherited throughout

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

Prof. Dr. P. L. Dharma is renowned for his humility, approachability, and passion for education. He has dedicated his life to empowering students and transforming the lives of the less privileged. His journey from a humble background to his current position as the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University is a nothing short of a film story. It is the power of passion, determination, and compassion.

A Humble Beginning

Born into a working-class family in a remote village, Professor Dharma’s early years were marked by financial struggles. His parents, estate labourers in a coffee plantation, worked tirelessly to make ends meet. When he completed his SSLC, further education seemed like an unattainable dream due to a lack of resources. Forced to leave his studies, young Dharma took up work at a local tailoring shop, earning a modest income to support his family.

It was during this time that an interventional moment changed the course of his life. His maternal uncle, an air force officer, intervened, insisting that Dharma return to his studies. This encouragement led him to Madikeri, where he stayed in a hostel and excelled academically, becoming a topper in his college. His journey continued in Mangalore, where he pursued a Master’s degree in Political Science, securing the first rank.

Empowering Others through Education

Professor Dharma’s personal struggles inspired him to uplift others. Recognizing the transformative power of education, he began advocating for the children of estate labourers in his community. With limited resources but an abundance of determination, he ensured that these children had access to school uniforms, slates, and other essentials.

Over the years, his efforts have resulted in the education of over 200 children from diverse backgrounds. Many of these students have gone on to secure stable jobs and build successful lives, breaking the cycle of poverty. Prof. Dharma attributes this achievement to divine blessings and the collective effort of like-minded individuals, including his sister, who helped place several young people in jobs.

A Visionary Leader at Mangalore University

As the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof. Dharma’s leadership continues to reflect his unwavering commitment to education and societal progress. Under his stewardship, the university has seen initiatives aimed at fostering inclusive education and research excellence. His ability to connect with students and faculty alike has cultivated a collaborative and inspiring environment, further solidifying the university’s reputation as a hub of academic excellence.

Prof. Dharma’s emphasis on integration of traditional wisdom with contemporary advancements has redefined educational priorities, enabling the university to address the evolving needs of society. His vision extends beyond academic achievement, emphasizing the development of socially responsible citizens.

A Champion of Appreciative Inquiry

Prof. Dharma’s philosophy aligns closely with the principles of Appreciative Inquiry (AI), a behavioural science that emphasizes building on strengths rather than merely resolving problems. He believes that life is shaped by stories of transformation. For him, reflecting on the past is not about dwelling on hardships but cherishing the experiences that shape character and drive personal growth.

Prof. Dharma shares an emotional insight: “Our past is our treasure. It’s what makes us who we are today. By connecting with our experiences, whether bitter or sweet, we learn valuable lessons and develop a sense of responsibility towards others.”

The Balance between Inner and Outer Happiness

One of Prof. Dharma’s profound teachings is the distinction between outer and inner happiness. Outer happiness, he explains, is often shaped by societal expectations and material possessions, while inner happiness stems from alignment with one’s values and a sense of purpose.

“Outer happiness is a construction,” he says. “It’s influenced by how we adapt to social situations and meet external expectations. But inner happiness is cultivated. It is all about finding contentment within and living a life true to your values.”

This philosophy underscores his approach to life: a balance between adapting to external realities and nurturing an authentic, value-driven inner self.

A Message for the Younger Generation

Prof. Dharma is deeply concerned about the well-being of today’s youth. While acknowledging the improved standard of living, he urges young people not to take life for granted. “Life is full of struggles,” he says. “The comforts we enjoy today are the result of sacrifices made by those before us. It’s essential to value hard work, connect with your past, and appreciate the efforts of your elders.”

He encourages young people to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and to pursue happiness that transcends material wealth. For him, true success lies in contributing to the well-being of others and living a life of purpose.

A Legacy of Compassion and Leadership

Prof. P. L. Dharma’s life is a shining example of how personal struggles can fuel a commitment to social transformation. His work in education, his openness, and his unwavering dedication to humanity have made him an inspiration to many.

In his own words, “Whatever God has given me, I have shared with my fellow people.” He is generous and service defines his personality. He leads Mangalore University into a great future connecting with its glorious past and striving for a renewed and revamped status where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Previous Episode

Professor Dr. PL Darma is joining us today on screen for today’s Appreciative Inquiry series. The series of Appreciative Inquiry is based on the behavioral science of Appreciative Inquiry, originating at the National Training Laboratory (NTL) in America. It says: When you keep on identifying mistakes and resolving problems, you can only maintain the status quo. When you want to achieve something, you should do something else, and that is based on your inner strength. Whether you are an individual, a society, a family, a city, or a nation, you have to look upon your own strength. For the city, it is the strength of the people of the city, the human capital.

Lessons from a Multifaceted Career

With a diverse career spanning roles in Infosys projects, during Sobha Days or with his role in CREDAI, and the construction industry, he has accumulated a wealth of experience. Each role has taught him valuable lessons in management, adaptability, and human interaction. Working in the construction sector, in particular, honed his ability to engage with people from various social strata, teaching him patience and presence of mind.

“Success is built on small instances of life,” he says. “Every phase of your career offers lessons that prepare you for the next challenge.”

Financial Discipline and Responsibility

Vinod Pinto’s financial philosophy is rooted in discipline and foresight. He advocates for wise financial planning and cautions against unnecessary expenses. He also emphasizes the importance of respecting the sacrifices of parents and taking responsibility for one’s decisions.

“Financial stability comes from understanding the value of what you have and making informed choices,” he advises.

Guiding the Youth

Vinod Pinto has a special message for the younger generation: avoid impulsive decisions and value your life. Whether it’s reckless driving or neglecting one’s health, he urges youth to think twice and prioritize their well-being. He also speaks passionately about the importance of emotional balance and endurance, urging young people to seek solutions rather than succumb to despair.

“Life’s challenges are temporary,” he reassures. “There’s always a way forward, even in the darkest moments.”

Humility and Interpersonal Skills

Humility and sincerity are central to his approach to life. He believes in treating everyone with respect, whether they are labourers or high-net-worth individuals. He stresses the importance of being honest and apologizing when necessary, as these qualities build self-respect and strengthen relationships.

“A genuine connection is built on mutual respect and understanding,” he says. “Treat others the way you wish to be treated.”

Continuous Learning and Reading

He is a lifelong learner who values the power of reading. He advocates for replacing screen time with physical books, which he believes foster better focus and deeper learning. Make reading a regular habit; it’s a practice he adopted of late and highly recommends. Developing a reading habit can help broaden your perspective, gain new insights, and expand your knowledge on various subjects.

“The more you learn, the more equipped you are to face life’s challenges,” he notes. Books share lessons that are proven and applauded by others. The Inspiring Journey of Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo: From Humble Beginnings to Remarkable Leadership | Global TV

NV Paulose, Chairman, Global TV +91 98441 82044

In the small village of Berva in Thumbe Village of Dakshina Kannada, nestled amidst the tranquil fields of Karnataka, a boy was born to a humble teacher and farmer. Few could have imagined that this child, raised in the simplicity of rural life, would one day rise to become a towering figure in the Catholic Church and a great hope and support for countless individuals. This is the story of Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo; a journey of grit, grace, and greatness.

Humble Beginnings, Profound Lessons

Born on April 22, 1963, Fr. Faustine’s early life was anything but easy. His father, a schoolteacher and farmer, exemplified discipline and diligence, setting a high standard for his children. He was a man of unwavering principles, firm resolve, and clear values, embodying great discipline and focus. For Faustine, his father was his role model. He had literally imbibed the qualities in him as exactly and as perfectly that we see him with the kind of seriousness that his father had.

It is not that easy for someone even at the known circles to approach him with casual stuffs and silly thoughts. He look very serious and people take him more serious than what he is. He is always open to people who are dedicated and are true to themselves. He connects with people who are sincere, focused, and share a sense of purpose. This is how he had come up in life from his early childhood.

Neighbours would first approach his mother whenever they wanted an advice or needed to convey something to his father. Once she gave them the go-ahead, they would politely approach him and seek his advice on how to address the matter.

The daily routine in his childhood was a delicate balance of studies, farm work, and familial responsibilities. He did all of them with dedication and diligence. It was a routine for him walking five miles to school and five miles back home, assisting with household chores, and fetching water from the well every day. It has become part of his nature and he could involve in them hundred percent.

Hardship did not discourage him. He never had even felt so. Instead, it fuelled his emotional resilience. He didn’t have much, but he had a strong will. He was proud to be the son of a well-respected teacher.  Young Faustine was lucky to be brought up in a systemic environment. He was giving hundred percent attention while doing whatever that he was doing. Reading was less. Study time was limited, but whatever read went right into his memory. He scored high marks in all exams; all because of his grasping power and photographic memory that he had developed in the childhood itself. Love what you do and be passionate about them; he says!

A Call to Serve: The Birth of a Priest

Fr. Faustine’s journey to the seminary wasn’t preordained; it was a calling that emerged gradually, nurtured by his deep faith and desire to serve. In 1981, he entered St. Joseph’s Seminary in Jeppu, Mangalore. A decade-long spiritual and academic formation. Ordained in 1990 at Milagres Church.

Fr. Faustine’s first significant challenge came in Bidar, a remote mission territory where he worked tirelessly with the underprivileged. He thought he was thrown out from the mainstream and there is no possibility of going back. Obedience was one of his prime virtues that he had learned at home. He took the remote posting very positively and had worked tirelessly. It was there that his resilience was tested and purpose reaffirmed: “The mission field taught me patience and compassion,” he said with a broad smile and with a sense of satisfaction.

The Reluctant Leader Who Excelled

At just 33, Fr. Faustine was thrust into the role of Director at Canara Organization for Development and Peace (CODP) Mangalore. It was a very high position, naturally reserved for senior priests. “I had no prior experience running such a significant organization, but I got into the challenge,” he shares.

For seven years, he transformed CODP into a dynamic force for social justice, addressing issues ranging from poverty to education. His philosophy was simple yet profound: “If you give your best, God will do the rest.” This mind-set would become his guiding principle, propelling him to even greater heights.

The National Stage: A Visionary’s Rise

In 2011, Fr. Faustine was appointed National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS). This was a role of immense prestige and responsibility. He was chosen for this post on account of his unparalleled dedication and track record in comparison with candidates with advanced academic credentials.

During his tenure, Fr. Faustine redefined the role of missionary work in India. He brought innovation, accountability, and collaboration to the forefront, ensuring that the Church’s outreach programs touched the lives of the most marginalized. His work got recognised and he was later invited to join PMS International’s Finance Committee. He was the first Indian to hold such a position.

Juggling Roles, Inspiring Lives

Leadership often demands sacrifices, but Fr. Faustine embraced every role with unwavering commitment. Whether serving as Public Relations Officer for the Karnataka Bishops’ Council, Director of the Pastoral Institute, or Coordinator for diocesan commissions, he managed to excel without losing sight of his core mission: to serve with humility. “I learned to balance multiple hats, but the key was staying rooted in faith,” he reflects. His tenure as Secretary of the Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights further cemented his reputation as a defender of justice and equality.

A Champion of Empowerment

Fr. Faustine Lobo’s social impact extends far beyond the Church. He has been a relentless advocate for human rights, particularly for marginalized groups like domestic workers. By establishing networks like Bandhavya and registering labour rights organizations, he has given a voice to the voiceless.

His tele-serial Divya Sannidhi, showcasing the historical churches of Karnataka, reflects his creative spirit and ability to blend faith with culture. With 104 episodes aired, the series was a cultural phenomenon, inspiring countless viewers.

New Horizons: A Visionary’s Next Chapter

As Fr. Faustine prepares to assume leadership at the Father Muller Charitable Institutions in 2025, he reflects on the journey that brought him here. “Every role I’ve taken was an opportunity to glorify God and uplift others,” he says. His plans for Father Muller Institutions include expanding healthcare, education, and social outreach, ensuring that the institution becomes a lighthouse for those in need.

Legacy of Faith, Hope, and Determination

Fr. Faustine Lobo’s life is a master class in leadership, service, and unwavering faith. From humble beginnings in Berva to holding some of the most prestigious positions in the Church, he has shown that true greatness lies in serving others.

His story of total involvement and deeper dedication on all that comes on the way is a true role model. Challenges are stepping stones, not roadblocks. That is the take away. His life’s philosophy as mentioned earlier “Do your best, and let God do the rest” talks about his person and vision much louder.

He is an authentic leader. As he continues his journey, Fr. Faustine remains a shining example of what it means to lead with heart, inspire with vision, and serve with humility. Despite facing numerous challenges, Fr. Lobo persevered and went on to achieve great things. His journey was not without its obstacles, but he learned to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity. His philosophy of “putting in minimum effort and getting maximum results” may seem unconventional, but it has served him well throughout his life. That’s how he had managed to take up various works. With hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to our values, we can overcome even the most daunting challenges and achieve greatness.
