The diversity in Kerala’s culture is remarkable | From Christians to Muslims and Hindus, each group contributes to the rich values of traditions | Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee, Alva’s Education Foundation | Moodbidre, Karnataka | Global TV

Celebrate and Preserve Kerala’s Cultural Legacy; Sri. Vivek Alva’s Reflections on the True “Kerala Story”

Kerala is more than just a state; it’s a vibrant culture that its people carry with them wherever they go. This is what the true “Kerala story” means to me; said Sri Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee of Alva’s Education Foundation.  He was addressing Kalothsavam 2024 organized by Alva’s Kerala Samajam at the Degree College on Sunday. You must understand that today, Malayalees are respected and recognized all over the world because of their rich culture of assimilating to the heritage of the land, wherever they go. From my early years, I was exposed to Kerala’s rich culture; he said. There are many similarities between Kerala and Dakshina Kannada. For example, both regions have unique festivals and traditional practices like Bhuta Kola. The language barrier is also relatively low because of shared linguistic elements. Growing up in a region with a significant Malayalam-speaking population, I learned a lot from my Malayalee friends.

Since 1995, I’ve seen the Malayalee community establish institutions like nursing colleges and degree colleges. They have become integral to our community, both for good and for bad. I remember my early days when I was quite robust, but now I’m a bit more relaxed and balanced. Yet, the connection with Malayalee culture has always been strong, partly because our chairman is a cultural ambassador and a classical dancer who appreciates Kerala’s traditions.

Alvas, our institution welcome students from different regions, encouraging diversity on our campus. This variety helps us learn and grow together. I am very much aware about the importance of attracting students from various backgrounds. It enriches our campus culture and creates a sense of unity.

The Kerala Samajam plays a crucial role in promoting Kerala’s culture. I appreciate their commitment to organizing events and activities that bring people together. Even in sports and other cultural programs, the Malayalee students show a genuine effort to keep their traditions alive.

When we started the “Keraleeyam” program, it was about more than just enjoying cultural festivities; it was about learning and sharing. Even non-Malayalees began to understand and appreciate Kerala’s unique traditions. It’s essential to remember that our actions speak louder than words. When faced with misunderstandings of stereotypes to divide people and take away piece from the society, our response is always to continue promoting harmony and understanding; he narrated.

The diversity in Kerala’s culture is remarkable. From Christians to Muslims and Hindus, each group contributes to the rich values of traditions. Onam, for instance, is a celebration that brings everyone together, regardless of religious affiliation. This spirit of unity is something we need to share with the rest of the world.

As we move forward, it’s crucial to take responsibility for promoting Kerala’s culture and values. My chairman embraced this responsibility, organizing cultural events and supporting charitable initiatives. We must do the same, fostering a sense of unity and rejecting division based on religion, caste, or ethnicity.

Ultimately, it’s up to us to create a brighter future. If we don’t take responsibility, someone else will write our story. Let’s work together to showcase the beauty and richness of Kerala’s culture to the world; he said.

Editorial:

Celebrating Kerala’s Cultural Richness: A Call for Unity and Preservation

Kalothsavam 2024, organized by Alva’s Kerala Samajam, was not just a celebration of Kerala’s vibrant culture but also a reaffirmation of the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage. Sri. Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee of Alva’s Education Foundation, delivered an insightful address, underlining the significance of Kerala’s cultural legacy and the need for unity and cultural preservation. Kerala, often referred to as “God’s Own Country,” is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, which extends far beyond its geographical boundaries. Sri. Alva rightly pointed out that Kerala’s culture is not limited to the state but is a vibrant legacy carried by Malayalees wherever they go.

Sri. Alva’s reflections on his early exposure to Kerala’s culture and its similarities with Dakshina Kannada highlight the deep-rooted connections between communities. These connections, based on shared festivals, traditional practices, and linguistic elements, underscore the unity amidst diversity.

The contributions of the Malayalee community to the region have been substantial. Sri. Alva’s recognition of their contributions reflects a deep understanding of the symbiotic relationship between communities and the importance of collaboration.

Alva’s, as an institution, sets an example for the entire nation by promoting diversity on its campus and encouraging and celebrating students and their culture from various regions through large scale events. This diversity enriches the campus culture and fosters a sense of unity. Sri. Alva rightly pointed out that actions speak louder than words, emphasizing the need to continue promoting harmony and understanding, particularly in the face of stereotypes and misunderstandings.

The diversity within Kerala’s culture, with contributions from Christians, Muslims, and Hindus, is remarkable. Festivals like Onam serve as reminders of the spirit of unity that transcends religious affiliations, bringing people together in celebration.

It is imperative and equally essential to recognize our collective responsibility in preserving and promoting this heritage. Sri. Alva’s call for unity and cultural preservation echoes deeply, urging us to reject divisions based on religion, caste, or ethnicity. The editorial also represents the views of Global TV.

The Karnataka Unaided PU College Management Association (KUPMA) has expressed deep concerns regarding the numerous issues that marred the CET 2024 examination | Global TV

Controversy Surrounds Karnataka CET 2024 Examination

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) is under scrutiny following the conduct of the CET 2024 entrance test. This exam, vital for admissions to Engineering and other professional courses, has faced criticism due to significant irregularities, leaving students, parents, and educators in a state of uncertainty.

This year’s CET exam, which is usually smoothly managed by the Department of Pre-Graduate Education and KEA, has deviated from the norm, causing widespread confusion. For the first time since its inception in 1984, the exam included a substantial number of out-of-syllabus questions. Approximately 45 questions across Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology (PCMB) subjects were unrelated to the current syllabus.

The inclusion of these out-of-syllabus questions has raised serious concerns, as the CET exam is supposed to align with the syllabus prescribed for the first and second PUC divisions. The discrepancy became apparent on the first day of exams, leaving students unsure whether to focus solely on the syllabus or to prepare for additional, unexpected questions.

The Karnataka Unaided PU College Management Association (KUPMA) has expressed deep concerns regarding the numerous issues that marred the CET 2024 examination. Dr. M. Mohan Alva, President of KUPMA, stated, “Our intent is not to confront but to constructively engage with the KEA in finding a resolution that safeguards the interests and future of our students.”

Key Issues Highlighted by KUPMA:Proposed Solutions by KUPMA:
Out-of-Syllabus Questions: Approximately 45 out-of-syllabus questions were included in this year’s CET exam, causing unnecessary stress and undermining the credibility of the exam.
Examination Centers: The allocation of distant centers has placed an additional logistical and emotional burden on students, necessitating an explanation from the KEA.
Mental Agony of Students: The mental well-being of students during this crucial phase of their academic career has been overlooked, raising further concerns.

Review and Adjustment of Exam Results: KUPMA proposes excluding out-of-syllabus questions from the grading process to ensure fairness in student evaluation.
Consultation with Subject Experts: Immediate consultation with subject experts to verify and rectify any further errors in the examination process.
Transparent Communication: KUPMA urges KEA to provide timely and clear communication regarding the steps taken to address these issues.

With 3,49,637 students enrolled, the uncertainty surrounding the CET 2024 examination demands urgent attention from the authorities. KUPMA awaits a prompt response and the initiation of corrective measures to address these pressing concerns.

  • By integrating key concepts from understanding personalities, mobilizing teams, and embracing collaboration, sales professionals can deal with the complexities of the sales process with confidence and drive impactful results.

For many individuals, the pursuit of professional success often requires sacrificing personal passions. This is especially true for those in fields such as the arts, where financial stability can be elusive. However, as success is achieved, the longing to reignite one’s passion often resurfaces. So, how can individuals bridge the gap between their thriving careers and neglected passions?

1. Recognize the Importance of Passion:

Passion is the fuel that drives creativity and fulfillment in life. While professional success may provide financial security and recognition, it is often passion that brings true joy and meaning to our endeavors. Acknowledging the significance of passion is the first step towards reclaiming it in your life.

2. Convert Success into Collaboration:

Instead of viewing success as a solitary achievement, consider leveraging it to build a collaborative endeavor. Transform your area of success into a team effort, involving like-minded individuals who share your vision and values. By expanding your success into a collective venture, you create opportunities for mutual growth and support.

3. Think Big:

When transitioning from individual success to collaborative endeavors, think big. Expand the scope of your projects and ambitions to encompass larger goals and aspirations. By aiming for ambitious targets, you not only challenge yourself but also inspire others to join you on your journey.

4. Delegate and Empower:

As your collaborative projects grow, learn to delegate responsibilities and empower team members to take ownership of their roles. Trust in their abilities and provide them with the autonomy to contribute meaningfully to the shared vision. By fostering a culture of trust and empowerment, you enable your team to thrive independently.

5. Create Space for Passion:

While managing collaborative projects, prioritize carving out time for pursuing your passion. Schedule dedicated periods for engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment, whether it’s painting, writing, or performing. By intentionally making time for your passion, you maintain a sense of balance and well-being amidst your professional pursuits.

6. Foster a Culture of Work-Life Integration:

Promote a culture of work-life integration within your collaborative endeavors. Encourage team members to prioritize their passions and personal well-being alongside their professional commitments. By fostering a supportive environment that values holistic growth, you cultivate a team of individuals who are motivated and fulfilled both professionally and personally.

7. Embrace Continuous Learning and Growth:

Remain open to learning and growth throughout your journey. Seek out opportunities to expand your skills, explore new interests, and evolve as both a professional and an individual. Embracing a mindset of continuous learning ensures that your collaborative endeavors remain dynamic and relevant to your evolving passions and aspirations.

Balancing professional success with personal passion is achievable only through collaboration, co creation, team work and intentional time management. By converting individual success into collaborative ventures, fostering a culture of work-life integration, and prioritizing personal passions, individuals can pursue their dreams while achieving professional success. Remember, true fulfillment lies in finding harmony between success and passion in life’s journey.

Mastering Sales Success by Mobilizing Teams, and Embracing Collaboration!

In the fast-paced and competitive world of sales, achieving success requires more than just persuasive pitches and aggressive tactics. It demands a deep understanding of human behavior, effective team dynamics, and a collaborative approach. The essential pillars of salesmanship include understanding personality dynamics, mobilizing teams for success, and embracing collaboration.

Understanding Personality Dynamics in Sales:

Sales professionals encounter a diverse array of personalities in their interactions with customers. Each individual brings unique preferences, motivations, and communication styles to the table, which greatly influence their decision-making process. Recognizing and adapting to these nuances is essential for forging meaningful connections and driving sales success.

The Active vs. Reflective Duality:

Individuals can be broadly categorized into two distinct personas: the active and the reflective. The active customer exudes urgency and seeks immediate solutions, while the reflective customer craves thorough information and assurance through research. Understanding and catering to these contrasting preferences is crucial for effective sales strategies.

Paying Attention to Attention:

Attention is the currency of sales. Whether a customer is focused on practical solutions or delving deep into the underlying meaning of a pitch dictates the appropriate communication approach. By understanding where their attention lies, sales professionals can craft messages that resonate deeply and capture interest.

Deciphering Stress Responses:

Stress is inevitable in decision-making, but how individuals respond to it varies greatly. Paying attention to subtle cues, such as eye patterns, provides insights into their stress response style. By aligning strategies with their stress response, sales professionals can foster trust and facilitate smoother decision-making processes.

The Power of Personalization:

World is overwhelmed with generic sales pitches. Personalization is supreme in any of the cases of success. By tailoring approaches to individual personalities, sales professionals can forge deeper connections and drive greater engagement. Empowering sales teams with the tools to recognize and respond to diverse personality types is essential for elevating sales efforts to new heights of success.

Mobilizing Teams for Success:

In addition to understanding individual personalities, success in sales also hinges on effective team dynamics. Assembling cohesive teams that leverage collective strengths and expertise is essential for tackling complex challenges and achieving remarkable results.

Placing People Appropriately:

One size does not fit all in sales teams. Some individuals thrive on quick decisions and fast-paced environments, while others excel in research and reflection. By positioning team members where their strengths shine brightest, organizations maximize their potential and productivity.

Mobilizing Teams for Speed and Efficiency:

Speed is of the essence in sales. Assembling teams that can swiftly execute tasks and adapt to changing circumstances is essential for success. Identifying team members who excel in rapid decision-making and action-oriented tasks empowers organizations to drive initiatives forward with efficiency.

Training for Adaptability:

Effective sales teams are adaptable teams. Ongoing training and development focused on enhancing interpersonal skills and communication strategies are crucial for navigating the complexities of human interaction. By fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual support, teams can overcome challenges and achieve collective goals.

Maximizing Productivity through Personalization:

Personalization extends beyond customer interactions to internal team dynamics. Empowering teams to understand and adapt to diverse personalities within their ranks fosters a culture of collaboration and mutual support. By leveraging each other’s strengths, teams maximize productivity and achieve shared objectives.

Embracing Collaboration in Sales:

Collaboration is the linchpin of success in sales. By harnessing the power of unity and leveraging collective expertise, organizations can deliver unparalleled value to customers and outperform competitors.

The Strength of Unity:

Cohesive teams with a shared purpose and complementary skills form a powerhouse capable of overcoming obstacles and seizing opportunities. Unity breeds resilience and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.

Leveraging Collective Expertise:

Each team member brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the table, enriching the collective knowledge base and enhancing overall effectiveness. By pooling resources and collaborating closely, teams can achieve far greater results than any individual could accomplish alone.

Enhancing Customer Experience:

Personalized, collaborative approaches enable organizations to deliver seamless and personalized experiences to customers at every touchpoint. By assigning dedicated team members to specific accounts or segments, organizations cultivate deep relationships and drive repeat business and referrals.

Achieving Abundance Through Collaboration:

Success in sales hinges on understanding people and mobilizing teams effectively. By embracing collaboration as a guiding principle, organizations unlock abundance and achieve extraordinary results in today’s dynamic marketplace.

Mastering sales success requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses understanding personality dynamics, mobilizing teams for success, and embracing collaboration. By implementing the strategies outlined in this guide, sales professionals can navigate challenges with confidence, drive meaningful impact, and achieve unprecedented success in today’s competitive business landscape.

After handling thermal paper, make it a habit to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water; Dr. Ananth Prabhu Gurpur

Thermal paper, used extensively in various industries, relies on heat to produce images or text, Are you aware about its potential hazards?

In our daily lives, we often encounter thermal paper in the form of receipts, tickets, and various transactional documents. Whether it’s grabbing a quick bite at a café, refueling our vehicles at gas stations, or making routine purchases at retail stores, these thermal paper receipts swiftly find their way into our hands. However, what many of us may not realize is the potential danger lurking within these seemingly innocuous slips of paper. Often handled without a second thought and rarely disposed of immediately, thermal paper poses health risks that go beyond simple contact. From absentmindedly touching our faces after handling receipts to the seemingly harmless habit of licking or chewing them, the consequences of such actions can be more significant than we might imagine. Thermal paper, used extensively in various industries, relies on heat to produce images or text, and understanding its potential hazards is crucial for safeguarding our well-being.

Thermal printers employ heat to create images on paper, tape, ribbons, or other materials, eliminating the need for traditional ink or toner. There are primarily two types of thermal printing technologies in use:

  1. Direct thermal printing: This method utilizes a specialized thermochromic-coated paper that turns black upon exposure to heat, effectively producing images or text. Commonly employed for generating temporary documents like receipts and tickets, direct thermal printing offers convenience but poses certain risks due to the chemicals involved.
  2. Thermal transfer printing: In contrast, thermal transfer printing employs a heat-sensitive ribbon equipped with tiny heated pins. These pins melt and transfer wax or resin-based ink from the ribbon onto a blank surface, resulting in a more durable print.

Unlike direct thermal printing, thermal transfer printers can produce colored prints by utilizing ribbons of varying hues, making them suitable for applications such as ID badge printing.

Despite the ubiquity of thermal paper in our daily transactions, it’s essential to be mindful of the potential hazards associated with its use. Here are a few precautions to minimize exposure and mitigate risks:

  • Avoid direct skin contact: Whenever possible, refrain from prolonged contact with thermal paper. Use gloves or tissue paper to handle receipts and tickets, particularly if you have sensitive skin or pre-existing dermatological conditions.
  • Wash hands regularly: After handling thermal paper, make it a habit to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This simple yet effective measure helps remove any residual chemicals or contaminants that may have transferred from the paper to your skin.
  • Refrain from licking or chewing: While it may seem harmless in the moment, licking or chewing thermal paper can expose you to potentially harmful chemicals present in the paper coating. Resist the temptation to engage in such practices, and instead, opt for safer alternatives for handling receipts and tickets.

One of the significant concerns associated with thermal paper is the presence of Bisphenol A (BPA) in its coating. BPA is a chemical compound used in the production of thermal paper to enhance its durability and printing quality. However, BPA is known to leach out of the paper upon contact with heat or friction, posing potential health risks to individuals who handle it. Studies have linked BPA exposure to various adverse health effects, including hormonal disruptions, reproductive issues, and developmental abnormalities. Moreover, prolonged or repeated exposure to BPA-containing thermal paper may exacerbate these risks, making it imperative to minimize contact and employ preventive measures when handling such materials.

By exercising caution and adopting preventive measures, we can minimize the risks associated with thermal paper exposure and safeguard our health and well-being in the long run.
