LESSON FROM MAURITIUS | Whenever a new government comes into power, they continue the good work done by their predecessors. This is different from some other countries where each new government changes everything | AREFF SALAUROO

NATCON 2024 SATURDAY 28 SEPTENBER 2024 | Mr Areff Salauroo CEO of La Sentinelle group Mauritius Talking about India and Global TV |

MR. MH RAJA:

I take this opportunity to welcome everyone, and I request Mr. Areff Salauroo to take over the session.

MR. AREFF SALAUROO:

Thank you so much, Mr. Raja, for your introduction. Thank you. It’s an honor for me to be here, and I thank you all for the kind invitation extended to me and the Mauritian association of HR. It has been a really enriching experience participating for a few years now in NATCON.

This year, there has been an innovation for the first time. They have attached a person to assist us. Her name is Ms. Alphonsa, and she has been really very helpful, trying to sort things up for us. And under your applause to say thank you to her,I have brought a small gift for Alphonsa if she’s around . Yeah she’s coming. She has been helping us all the way through, our flight was delayed at the airport, and she waited until midnight.

One of the best ways to say thank you to her is by presenting this small token of appreciation that I brought from Mauritius. And let me also applaud. And Yesterday, during our party, she introduced me to her father, Mr. Paul, whom many of you know. He is the Chairman of Global TV. And he, not by coincidence, really by inspiration shared something with me, which I would like to share with you. Can we have it. You all know this, you all have heard about it, but I, listened to it for the first time this morning.

FROM THE UNIVERSAL PRAYER OF DR. KALAM RELEASED BY GLOBAL TV ON 25 JULY 2007 WHEN DR. KALAM WA PRESIDENT OF INDIA:

Almighty creates thoughts and actions in the minds of the people of our nation,
so they may live united. May they live united. Almighty, this is my prayer.

Almighty, help them choose the right path, bless the people of our nation
with strength of character and righteousness. Almighty, this is my prayer.

May our nation move ahead in love and harmony,
and bless the people with lasting peace.

MR. AREFF SALAUROO:

Thank you very much. You see Mr. Paul let me to discover this song,
I think you should have seen it before me.

Then when I was listening to this, Thank you, Mr. Paul. I see in fact that my session this morning has been titled ‘Lesson’s from Mauritius It’s and I said what lesson from Mauritius, it’s lessons from India. Yes, we have to learn so many things from you. India is leading in so many ways. What has Mauritius to share, if I try to go deep into trying to answer this question I’ll say maybe, Like India we got our independence 20 years after you. You will be celebrating your 100 years in 2047, so which means for us it will be 20 years after that, 2067.

When we had our independence, the British people said that this is a small country, nothing to do, they do not have any resources at all, and this country will definitely collapse very soon. In fact, the political leaders sat down, they got motivated because of the challenge, and they created a single sugarcane agricultural company into today becoming one country with per capita income of about 10,000 US dollars. So can you imagine the journey that has been travelled.

Mauritius is classified in terms of governance as No.1, it is classified in terms of, human development index, the best one in Africa and in the region,it ranks No.1 there also. And there has been a huge diversifiaction of the economy, Agriculture is still there, we still have Sugarcane, we still have tea but to a less extent than it was before. What we have else than that is manufacturing and exports. Manufacturing sector in Mauritius is doing very well, and most probably people would be expecting me to say something, to say where do you place tourism. Third comes financial services and on the fourth place is Tourism. Many people would think that tourism should be ranked first, as the country has a very vibrant tourism industry.

The economy has been growing consistently for many years, and Mauritius is now categorized under the upper medium development index, on the verge of becoming a high-income country.

One key factor that explains this success is political stability. By political stability, I mean that whenever a new government comes into power, they continue the good work done by their predecessors. This is different from some other countries where each new government changes everything.

Mauritius has been able to protect its economy from external shocks, such as the pandemic and wars in nearby regions. This protection has allowed the economy to develop despite financial or health crises. The main sectors I mentioned are doing very well, and new sectors like the blue economy are also emerging strongly.

Mauritius, with its large maritime territory, is becoming a key player in the global maritime industry. However, there have been contentions with some countries over territory, like the case with the Maldives and another with the UK and the US over an island. But Mauritius is asserting its position and has been greatly supported by India in reclaiming what is rightfully theirs.

Thank you very much.

MASTER OF CEREMONY:

Thank you so much, sir, for your insights from Mauritius.

We are adding a Response from Global TV here:

Dear Sir,

KINDLY READ THIS ONCE YOU ARE BACK HOME.

I know how much you value time and your promptness in maintaining time even at adverse situations.

Everything was perfectly timed and predestined!

Even the less time sense of we the Indian People.

I would have gone emotional if i would have heard you instantly

The way you have kept the surprise in suspense is commendable

I had to rush to speak at another function a while before your session started,

Both the functions got delayed more than 30 minutes than the scheduled time.

Your talk was precise and perfect.

I have heard the video many times.

Every bit of your words were systemic

You are a gem of a person with a heart and true human touch.

Your entire talk was reshaped and presented as if you have prepared and rehearsed it thousand times.

You knocked at the heart of Indian Ethos and made us understand the value of the wealth of us which we are consciously denying to honour and respect. My salute to the Mauritius Citizens in the leadership and governance who had taken the challenge paused by Then Europeans positively and had proved them wrong.

The Indian society is yet to grow from political governments to Social Governance. As you had indirectly said, we discard everything when there is a change in political governments. Corruption is the common factor irrespective of  the parties in India. People are too good and they believe the casual words of the political leaders and expect the governments to bring success to all of us.

We are yet to learn the art of role creation, team formation and outcome based timely action. We at Global TV, believe in a Non Threatening Media Approach. We have done about 2000 TV Episodes in the past 20 plus years. We promote them through Institutional Auditoriums. One of them I am giving YouTube link here. https://youtu.be/ucxgtH926zw

We keep doing our bit in connecting the Visionaries, Action Leaders and the Youth in Collective and Collaborative action. I am attaching few of our Campaign efforts for your perusal. We are in a Globalised world today. We all are Global Citizens. People are the wealth of India, Mauritius and all other nations. We hope for the world that value Time and Humanity. The world will transform the day, we value to respect human beings irrespective of their positions and portfolios. You had taught us the lesson in person. Your presence was an experience.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

THERE ARE NO WORDS TO THANK YOU

I AM SURE GOD HAD SENT YOU TO THE LAND OF SPIRITUALITY

I Wish You to hear the Chicago Address of Swami Vivekananda and also to STUDY another Topic named IMAGINE CHICAGO and APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY.

You are already Practicing Both. You have demonstrated the essence of Humanity and addressed the issue at the core in the given short time.

I earnestly Pray the GOOD God to Give YOU HUNDRED MORE HEALTHY AND WEALTHY HAPPY YEARS TO LIVE ON EARTH AND THEREAFTER THE ETERNAL LIFE AS PROMISED TO BE REWARDED. WISH YOUR FAMILY LOTS OF HAPPINESS AND BLISSFUL JOY.

Lots of Respect and Love at Heart

By working together; educators, parents, and communities can create a supportive environment that nurtures students’ overall growth and helps them reach their full potential | Dr. Ruksana Hassan | Global TV

Where Have We Failed?

Dr. Ruksana Hassan, Psychologist, UN Educationist

As educators, parents, and members of society, it is crucial to recognize our collective responsibility in understanding the unique needs of each student. The traditional education system often overlooks the importance of addressing individual emotional and academic development. By acknowledging this gap, we can begin to foster a more personalized, student-centered approach that prioritizes the diverse experiences of all learners.

To effectively support students, we must embrace empathy, collaboration, and proactive intervention. This transformation requires a shift in perspective, where emotional well-being is seen as integral to academic success. By working together; educators, parents, and communities can create a supportive environment that nurtures students’ overall growth and helps them reach their full potential.

Ultimately, addressing these challenges is not just about improving educational outcomes; it’s about cultivating a generation of resilient, well-rounded individuals. By evolving our education system to prioritize personalized learning and emotional development, we can better equip students to navigate their futures and thrive in an increasingly complex world.

Servant leadership is a Paradigm Shift | Greatness stems from the virtues of humility, compassion, and a genuine desire to serve | Rev. Dr Thomas Kallikat | Global TV

The Power of Servant Leadership: Redefining Greatness and Creating Lasting Impact | Global TV

Leadership is often synonymous with authority, status, and control. Yet, a more transformative and powerful approach of ‘servant leadership’ challenges this conventional view by emphasizing service over dominance. This leadership style proposes a radical redefinition of greatness: true leadership is not about commanding others but about the willingness to serve.

Rethinking Leadership: From Power to Service

Traditional leadership models emphasize hierarchy and control, where leaders exercise authority over subordinates and manage outcomes. While this approach can yield short-term results, it often fosters a culture of disempowerment and disengagement, neglecting the ultimate purpose of leadership which is to uplift and guide others.

In contrast, servant leadership shifts this paradigm, suggesting that greatness stems not from exerting control, but from the virtues of humility, compassion, and a genuine desire to serve. This leadership style creates environments built on trust, empowerment, and collaboration, where servant leaders set the tone by demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the growth and well-being of those they lead.

The Spirit of Servant Leadership

Servant leadership mirrors the spirit of God, who embodies humility and compassion. Jesus Christ, through the act of washing His disciples’ feet, epitomized servant leadership, teaching that true greatness lies in serving others. This divine model calls upon leaders from all walks of life to rethink their approach, placing the well-being of others above personal ambition.

Servant leadership redefines greatness, offering a pathway that not only transforms individuals but also makes a profound impact on society. By shifting the focus from power to service, we can help build a more compassionate, just, and empowered world.

The Essence of Servant Leadership

Servant leadership transcends traditional leadership models by emphasizing the growth, well-being, and success of others rather than personal achievement. Servant leaders are listeners, supporters, and enablers of their teams, fostering environments where trust and collaboration thrive. This approach fortifies organizations by cultivating a resilient and cohesive culture.

Three core principles form the foundation of servant leadership:

1. Humility: True leaders understand that leadership is not about themselves but about the people they serve. Greatness is measured by the elevation of others.

2. Selflessness: Servant leaders prioritize the needs of others, placing the collective interest above personal ambition. Their focus is on benefiting the team and organization rather than seeking individual recognition.

3. Compassion: Leading with empathy, servant leaders demonstrate a deep commitment to the well-being of those they guide. This fosters an atmosphere where individuals feel valued, respected, and motivated.

Humility: Letting Go of Ego and Power

One of the greatest challenges for servant leaders is the ability to let go of ego. In a world that often celebrates power and personal success, prioritizing the growth of others over one’s ambition can be difficult. Yet, this is the foundation of servant leadership. When leaders focus on uplifting others, they create a ripple effect of success and fulfilment throughout their teams and organizations.

Leaders who embrace humility foster loyalty, innovation, and motivation. They build cultures of collaboration, trust, and mutual respect, driving sustainable success that transcends personal achievement.

Empowerment Over Control

Traditional leadership is often associated with control and micromanagement. However, servant leaders prioritize empowerment over control. They trust their teams, giving them the autonomy to take ownership of their work, make decisions, and contribute meaningfully to the organization’s success.

Empowerment does not equate to a lack of guidance. Instead, servant leaders provide their teams with the resources, tools, and support needed to succeed, enabling them to lead themselves with confidence.

The Ultimate Models of Servant Leadership

Some of history’s most revered leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa had embodied servant leadership. Their leadership was characterized not by personal gain but by sacrifice, humility, and selfless love for the people they served. They transformed societies through their compassion and dedication to service, leaving legacies that remind us that leadership is not about status or control, but about the positive impact we make on others’ lives.

The Impact of Servant Leadership

By adopting the principles of servant leadership, individuals, teams, and organizations can experience profound transformation. Leaders who focus on service foster a culture of shared purpose and mutual respect. In this environment, collaboration replaces competition and trust replaces fear. Communities and teams thrive when people feel empowered and supported, often achieving far more collectively than they could individually.

The Long-Term Benefits of Servant Leadership

Servant leadership offers long-lasting benefits beyond the leader and their immediate team. This leadership style promotes long-term organizational health by creating a culture where employees feel valued, engaged, and motivated to give their best. When individuals feel supported, they are more likely to remain loyal, creating a sense of unity that strengthens the organization as a whole.

Embracing Servant Leadership

Transitioning to servant leadership requires courage and commitment. Leaders must be willing to redefine success, moving away from personal ambition toward collective empowerment. Servant leaders challenge the status quo, measuring success by how they uplift others rather than how much power or prestige they achieve.

The rewards of servant leadership are profound. Leaders who serve others cultivate stronger, more cohesive teams, experiencing deeper personal fulfilment along the way. Leadership becomes a journey of growth, connection, and purpose, with each moment contributing to a shared vision of collective success.

The Path Forward: Discovering True Greatness

The real power of servant leadership lies in its ability to redefine greatness. Leadership is not about power, control, or status, but about the impact we have on others. True greatness is found in lifting others up, helping them realize their potential, and creating environments where collaboration and trust flourish.

As we embrace servant leadership, we move toward creating more just, compassionate, and successful communities. This approach holds the potential to transform not only organizations but society at large, guiding us toward a future where leadership is defined by service and success is measured by the positive impact we have on others.

Redefining Success Through Servant Leadership

In a world that often equates leadership with power, servant leadership offers a radical yet deeply fulfilling alternative. Leading through service, humility, and compassion allows us to create lasting change in the lives of those we guide. By redefining leadership, we also redefine success; not by the authority we wield, but by the difference we make in the world.

Join the shared journey toward servant leadership and discover the true meaning of greatness.
