ROTARIAN LAL GOEL FEATURES IN ONE-HOUR ORGAN DONATION SPECIAL ON DOORDARSHAN URDU
New Delhi, 14 October 2026: Rtn Lal Goel, Founder and Charter President of the Rotary Club of Organ Donation International (RCODI) and Chairman of Organ Donation India Foundation and GYAN, appeared on Doordarshan Urdu (DD Urdu) in a special one-hour programme dedicated to organ donation, telecast on 14th October at 8 PM.
In an engaging conversation with renowned anchor Mr Nauman Hashmi, Rtn Lal Goel addressed a wide range of questions covering the fundamentals of organ, tissue and body donation; living organ donation and deceased donation following brain-stem death; the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994 (THOTA) and its relevant legal provisions; and the differences between the opt-in and opt-out systems of organ donation adopted in different countries.
The discussion also highlighted the major challenges facing organ donation in India, including the lack of public awareness, inadequate medical infrastructure, the high cost of transplantation, and the need for stronger government initiatives. The discussion also covered the role of the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in improving access to transplant treatment.
Rtn Lal Goel addressed common cultural and religious misconceptions surrounding organ donation and emphasised the urgent need for sustained public awareness, improved healthcare infrastructure, greater affordability, and collective action to bridge the wide gap between the availability of donated organs and the number of patients awaiting life-saving transplants.
He reiterated that organ donation is one of the noblest acts of humanity, offering hope and a second chance at life to patients suffering from organ failure. He also stressed that government efforts alone cannot achieve the desired transformation; citizens, educational institutions, healthcare professionals, social organisations, religious leaders and the media must work together to build a strong culture of organ donation in India.
The programme was produced and directed by Dr Syed Nazam Iqbal, renowned Senior Producer and Director at DD Urdu.
Let us spread awareness, dispel myths and inspire more people to pledge organ donation. Every pledge can become a promise of life.
